With a dash of gentle crooning, acoustic guitar strumming, and a cupful of sincere love, here are the 8 most popular OPM wooing songs, a.k.a. serenades guys offer to the true objects of their affection:
Puno ang langit ng bituin…
(Well, duh.) The song basically encapsulated what harana is all about. Pale face, sweaty palms, and stuttering speech — a hopelessly smitten young boy is all set to profess his love melodically.
Habang tumatagal, lumalala, laging nagwawala…
From the band known for their wonderful ballads, the song is quite reminiscent of an earlier hit “Huwag Na Lang Kaya,” only this time the dude’s gone over the hurdle of introducing himself to the girl and is now mustering up the courage to confess his true feelings by writing a song.
At kung ‘di makita, makikiusap kay Bathala…
For those who have loved this ’90s song even before it got really famous, we saw how this song became an anthem for the hopeless romantics. It was quite a feat finding the laxe version on Youtube, so it’s with pleasure that we’re sharing their That’s Entertainment! performance with all of you here.
All I really know is, I love you…
Just like True Faith, Side A is quite known for producing memorable love songs that just pierce through the heart. “So Many Questions” is what one feels when he doesn’t get the emotions building up toward someone else he is attracted to. Thanks to Side A, we can now express it in a song.
Sagutin mo lang ako, making sinta’y walang humpay na ligaya…
If you want to up your “cool” points even more and get the boy-next-door image right down pat, sing this early E-heads material to the girl. It only completely works if you or your wingman does the guitar live to accompany your voice. None of that minus-one version, okay? And if you can convince your other best bud to play the tambourine part for you, even better!
Kahit kailan di kita iiwan…
One of the more challenging songs to cover, only because it might challenge your vocals a bit more, thanks to the Luke Mejares-Jay Durias exchange that goes on all throughout the song. But if you really put your mind to it and rehearse nonstop, you might just surprise your lady, and yourself!
Sa piling mo, tanggal ang lumbay
Ni kasiyahan walang kapantay
Yup. We’ve all fallen for the sweet-talker at one point in our lives. It’s always good to have someone consider you as their Miss U, whether or not we have the perfect vital stats to show for it.
Ipagpatawad mo, minahal kita agad
This song suggests a pretty straightforward kind of guy declaring his admiration for a girl. It’s kind of cute that he is already asking for forgiveness for falling head over heels too fast for their own good. The best part of the song is definitely the repetitive chorus in falsetto, which kind of emphasizes that there’s really nothing more to say about how a dude is feeling when he’s got it bad for someone.
Which of these harana songs do you like best?
France B. Pinzon, a writer, has made big plans for 2013. She wants to personally meet Kim Jong Un to tell him how Un-hip and Un-cool he is even though he's the bomb. She wants to see (read: stalk) Chandler Parsons all over Manila this October. Finally, she wants to form her own indie band Giga-whut and open up a Mex-Japanese eatery called Karatequila. She'll work for these and she'll work for dog food. You can ask her about these stuff on Twitter.
