8 Cool Apps That’ll Let You Find Pen Pals from All Around the Globe

Apr 30, 2020   •   Ina Louise Manto

We no longer need to wait for days or weeks to receive a message as they can be received instantly. But there are still hobbyists who enjoy sending handwritten letters and postcards to friends from across the globe. However, the global pandemic has temporarily stopped this fun hobby. Thankfully,  there are apps that allow you to send snail mail and meet new friends without leaving the comforts of your home.

Slowly

After recently going viral on Twitter, Slowly has garnered users from around the globe. It’s neither a messaging nor dating app; they connect people globally at a slower pace, which is one letter at a time.  All you have to do is write a letter and send it to new friends. You also get to collect stamps along the way and unlock more.

Available on Android and iOS.

Bottled

Ever dreamed of sending a message in a bottle? Bottled lets you do that without causing harm to the environment. You can only write one letter at a time, which will be received by only one user. If they keep your bottled letter, you will be able to chat with each other. But if they decide to release it, the bottle will return to the sea until it reaches another stranger. Bottled also allows you to track your bottle in real-time.

Available on Android and iOS.

Interpals

With over 5 million users, Interpals is an app that allows you to meet new pen pals and language partners from around the world. If you’re trying to learn a new language, this app is a fun way to exercise what you’ve learned thus far. You also get matched with tandem language partners who can also give you a peek of the culture in their side of the world.

Available on Android and iOS.

Postfun

If collecting postcards is one of your hobbies, you’ll enjoy this one. Postfun allows you to send postcards using a requested postcard ID and address. For each postcard you send, you’ll receive one back. Aside from collecting postcards from different countries, you can also collect ones based on a certain topic, which is an exciting way of meeting new friends.

Available on iOS.
