Ever since Chance the Rapper became a household name following his albums Acid Rap and Coloring Book, the countdown to his inevitable concert in the music-crazy country of the Philippines began.
Admittedly, it took longer than anticipated for the Grammy-winning artist to reach our shores, but after Wednesday night’s concert at the Mall of Asia Arena, it’s safe to say that it was definitely worth the wait.
Here are 8 reasons why you have to watch Chance the Rapper live in your life:
From the opening moments of his arrival on stage until his final good-bye, Chance had the entire audience ready to explode at any given moment – and that’s exactly what happened quite a few times.
As far as entertaining goes, he’s one of the best in the game. Feeling like you’re in one hell of a party is worth the price of admission alone.
Many artists perform as if what they’re doing is work, and to be truthful, it is. But when fans pay a bunch of money to watch someone live, it’s much more enjoyable when the performer is clearly loving what he’s doing and playing to the applause of the crowd. The energy becomes much more contagious.
With Chance the Rapper, there won’t be a second where you feel like he’s not the person enjoying the most in the entire arena.
Chance has the magical ability of getting at least 98% of the crowd in attendance to give in and celebrate to the music. Those are the moments you live for as a music fan: dancing the night away with a bunch of strangers as you enjoy the art being displayed by one of the best performers in the world.
A Chance concert has it all in terms of aesthetics: fireworks, spotlights, tripping screens, heck, even confetti.
Chance is one of the artists that isn’t shy to try out quirky and eccentric fashion, even to the point where he’s made a name for himself with some of the clothing he’s decided to wear to special events. If you took a good look at the entire crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena on Wednesday night, you would have noticed how a bunch of people came in their most unique outfits.
That adds to the entertainment for the evening. While some may scoff at the notion of how guests go all out, without a damn, about what they wear, I think it’s incredible.
From the saxophone to the vocals, one of the things that make a Chance concert great is the instrumentals that complement his singing. Hell, at one point, he even had an imaginary keyboard!
Unpredictability is one of the best feelings in this world (well, at least sometimes). When you watch Chance the Rapper live, you’re always waiting on your toes because his singles have different tones and tunes to them, so not knowing what he’s going to perform next gets your anticipation to a higher level.
He can go from party-rocking by singing No Problem to mellow and reflective by singing Same Drugs. Then, out of nowhere, he’ll start singing Blessings. It’s one heck of a ride.
Scratch that, more like five hours later.
