As everyone’s daily commute has gotten progressively worse over time, and as dumber and dumber solutions to the problem are proposed by people who should know better, it would appear that the Department of Transportation (DOTr) is completely unperturbed by these issues.
MAGANDANG BALITA!

Not pictured: someone who thinks there’s a lot more work to do.
And because angry netizens are the best kind of netizens, they decided to make the hashtag #SalamatDOTr trend almost instantaneously, because people are worried the Department of Transportation might actually break its arm by trying to pat itself on the back wayyyyy too hard.
Here now are the tweets that pretty much made that glorious weekend when the hashtag was trending ohhhh so worth it…
Gais, let’s show our overwhelming outpour of love to the DOTr. Wag tayong ingrato please. #SalamatDOTr https://t.co/99mlwOeope

… it doesn’t even matter how hard you try. Well, if you wanted to know who exactly to blame for this hashtag trending, it’s this guy right here. He’s to blame.
#SalamatDOTr dahil sa isang byahe ay nakakatapos ako ng buong season ng paborito kong series.

Assuming this isn’t sarcasm (though it 99.99% probably is), here’s someone who knows how to spend their travel time well, though those data charges are probably going through the roof.
#SalamatDOTr at nakakarami ako ng huli ng Pokemon sa Pokemon Go dahils sa standstill traffic 🥰

It took Ash 22 years to become a Pokemon master. With how bad the traffic situation is, 22 years spent on the road in your lifetime doesn’t seem so far-fetched anymore. The problem is, while you can be the very best like no one ever was, and while to catch them all is your real test, and to train them is your cause, you won’t get to travel across the land searching far and wide with this traffic situation anytime soon.
#SalamatDOTr for continuously rejecting Go-Jek’s entry in the Philippines and securing Grab’s monopoly 😍

Yes, we recognize the MMDA shares some of the blame in this mess. But hey, it’s not the MMDA’s call who to allow to ply their trade here now that Uber is gone, and so many TNVS cars suddenly got taken off the road. The only monopoly we really enjoyed was the board game, and that was only when we were winning the game. Remember when Wunder was a thing? Us, neither.
Patience is a virtue. Kaya #SalamatDOTr for teaching us this virtue. Grateful kami forever, parang EDSA traffic. https://t.co/D8VicyrEqC

Preeeeetty sure…
Who is the amateur behind DOTr’s community management? #SalamatDOTr https://t.co/BRxkfBxm44

Someone is being piss poor at doing their job, and people are asking the right questions here.
Hmmm…
…but…
…I thought…
…doesn’t…
…maybe I’m mistaken……but doesn’t the “Tr” in “DOTr” stand for “transportation”??#SalamatDOTr pic.twitter.com/dZDZGmLmTN

You see, while it’s easy to pass the buck and say none of this is Secretary Tugade’s fault, we remember clearly who to blame. Nearly four years ago, we were braying for Abaya’s blood. Before that, we wanted Mar Roxas’s head on a platter. You know what they both share in common with Secretary Tugade? That’s right: they were both heads of DOTr at the time.
Wait, the word “splice” means to unite or to join. #SalamatDOTr https://t.co/G4uF5OJhHs

When things started getting too hot to handle, DOTr tried to quell the revolting masses with this feeble attempt at an explanation, which decided to go full Princess Bride and use a word that doesn’t mean what it thinks it does. Because when you have a Department of TRANSPORTATION complain about how mean people are to them over their problems with TRANSPORTATION because “it’s not their mandate,” you end up wondering where they were when the Commission on Human Rights was getting exactly the same flak over people who assumed anything to do with Human Rights at all was their purview. Guess what goes around really does come around.
