Kids from the 90s know the true bliss of owning a Polly Pocket or a Mighty Max. These toys were small playsets with different themes and little figurines in them–some of the larger playsets were the most coveted. Mighty Max was awesome because the playsets were all horror themed, giving kids an early appreciation for comics, horror, and fiction. Today, with the craze over zombies and vampires, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for the creators to make a comeback.
There’s just something about collecting, trading and playing these shiny cards that makes you feel like a kid again. Back in the day, there were only 150 Pokemon–meaning there were only 150 different creature cards. Today there’s an absurd number of Pokemon in its extended universe, and a resurgence of the trading card game would take Pokemon Cards to a whole new level. It is a game that involves careful thinking and strategy and can prove to be great training for young minds.
Kids today will never appreciate how live-saving a box of Legos were in the face of boredom. Back before smartphones, video games and Minecraft, kids around the world would use their imagination and channel their creative energy through Lego. Probably the world’s most famous toy, Lego is more of a novelty today than it is a hobby for kids. Lego needs to come back with a new marketing strategy and cater to its original customer: the children. Kids that played with and collected Lego had awesome childhoods–no questions asked.
The Tamagotchi definitely needs to make a comeback. What other toy can promote responsibility and fun at the same time? The Tamagotchi came in different designs, with different types of “pets” installed. Today, people usually use Tamagotchi style simulators on their phones or tablets but it just isn’t the same. Imagine the design of the old Tamagotchi, but made bigger with better graphics. It would be awesome if they were also less difficult to kill. Oh, the possibilities.
