K-Pop Songs That Talk About Mental Health

Oct 17, 2019   •   Bianca Katipunan

Music is a universal language, one doesn’t have to understand the lyrics of a song in order to connect with it. One just simply find comfort in listening to their favorite song regardless of what language it is.

This week the Korean industry lost Singer and Actress Sulli who battled depression that was caused by cyberbullying. This once again opened the discussion of Mental Health not only in the Korean Industry but around the world. In light with recent events, we’ve listed down K-Pop songs that talk about mental health.

Life

“Why is there no opposite word of loneliness?” Life is a song written by BTS’s RM, the song talks about life and loneliness. The song’s painful yet beautiful lyrics shines a light on the struggle of questioning one’s purpose in life.

Breathe

“It’s okay to make mistakes sometimes because anyone can do so” Breathe talks about how it’s okay to feel down sometimes, to breathe in and out all the pain that your heart may be feeling.

Nosedive

“When things are hard you can just cry in pain” This talks about one’s struggle with insecurity, depression, and loneliness. The core message of the song is saying that it’s okay to cry when you’re down because life gets heavy as our responsibilities grow.

Trauma

“Stuck in my fantasy like dreaming it to be real-life” Trauma talks about a person’s struggle to reach dreams but realizing that he also lost people along the way. That maybe he’s alone in his journey since he blocked most people in his life.

Wake Me Up

“That innocent child has grown up suddenly now I’ll awaken this fearful society” Wake Me Up is about growing up and facing the struggles of real life. That no matter how we want to hold on to the old us we have to wake up to the reality of the world.

Ugly
