Heads Up: Here’s How Different Universities Are Dealing With The nCoV Scare

With the news of a third nCoV case in the Philippines, universities are on high alert to protect their students, faculty, and staff. Universities around Metro Manila have enacted different precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the deadly virus. Here are some of the measures different universities are doing to prevent the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus:
University of The Philippines
The University of The Philippines recently developed test kits for nCoV. Once approved by the Department of Health, the kits may be used to test possible nCoV patients. The university also has an ongoing information campaign about the novel coronavirus and how to prevent its spread.
The University Of Sto. Thomas
The University of Sto. Thomas also posted safety guidelines for their students. They indicated basic steps on how to prevent the spread nCoV, and how you can get yourself checked in case you have the symptoms of the virus. The University also released a memo stating that all students and faculty members who have symptoms of the nCoV virus must visit their local hospital and conduct a self-quarantine for fourteen days.
Ateneo de Manila University
Father Jose Ramon T. Villarin S.J, the president of Ateneo De Manila University, recently released a statement regarding the novel coronavirus. He stated that any faculty member and student that recently came from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau should undergo a fourteen-day self-quarantine in accordance with the guidelines given by the Department of Health.
Far Eastern University
Far Eastern University is also implementing a fourteen-day self-quarantine rule for those who came from countries affected by the virus. Students who recently visited these areas are required to submit travel documents to see if they require quarantine. These students affected by the implementation of the quarantine will be given special classes.
National University
National University also announced that all faculty members and students who came from countries with confirmed cases must also go a fourteen-day quarantine. Students and Staff may inquire at National University’s health office for further announcements.
De La Salle University
De La Salle University is checking every student’s temperature before they enter the campus. If a student has a fever, they will automatically be sent to the University’s clinic for a check-up. The university also suspended Physical Education classes at the Enrique Razon swimming pool and has implemented a fourteen-day self-quarantine rule for students and faculty members who visited affected countries.
Adamson University

After a controversial post banning Chinese students from entering the campus, the university clarified that they will be implementing the quarantine rule imposed by the Department of Health. This means that all students and faculty who recently visited nCoV-affected countries must implement a fourteen-day self-quarantine. To ensure the safety of students, Adamson University put up an alcohol station at the entrance of the university.
University of the East
The University of the East is also implementing the self-quarantine rule for those who went to countries affected by nCoV. The University is also suspending activities involving a large number of people to prevent the possible spread of the virus.
