For many of us, “kaka-kompyuter mo yan!” was the go-to response of our moms when something doesn’t go our way. But the tables finally turned once she joined Facebook and instantly got hooked. Like it or not, our moms have taken over the social network. But not all Facebook moms are alike. Check out which category your mom falls in:
Iconic line: “Anak, di pa pala graduate si [name of a friend from elementary]?”
The Ms. Congeniality Mom is the type who is friends with everyone. I mean everyone. Your kapitbahay, her officemates, her entire high school and college batch, her office messenger, and even your friends from elementary. She’ll comment on your friends’ new profile photos with, “Anak, kamusta na?” or “Tumaba ka ata he he he…”
She’s the type to read through everyone’s posts and would probably shock you one day (if she hasn’t already) by randomly sharing an update from an long-lost friend in elementary. She probably also comments to your barkada’s posts, yung makikita mo na lang ng biglaan, and knows how to choose the proper FB reactions.
Iconic line: “You are such a blessing, anak.”
The Proud Mom is the type who only posts about her children and family’s achievements. She’s the type to post about e-v-e-r-y achievement, no matter how big or small they are. Maybe she even posts before you! Her timeline is just filled with photos of her children’s achievements, with matching comments from her kumare and kumpares all saying “Wow, nakakaproud naman.” This might be embarrassing for the “kids” concerned, but it’s actually pretty cute. Moms are truly a child’s biggest fan.
Iconic line: “1 like, 1 prayer”
The Religious Mom is the type whose timeline is mostly articles or posts about the Church, saints, or prayers. She consistently sends every person in her friend list prayers and never forgets to remind you to pray the rosary. She’s also probably an active member of your church; probably a lector or member of Couples for Christ.
P.S. This applies to all religions!
Iconic line: “Itong si [insert politician] nakakainis!”
The Political Mom might be one you look up to, depending on whether or not you share her views. She’s not afraid to share her opinions, no matter how many angry reacts and negative comments she gets from her friends. She always makes sure to fact-check before she posts, and reminds you to do so as well. She’s the type to engage in meaningful arguments and backs you up when someone bashes your political posts.
Iconic line: “Sabi dito sa [post], nakakapayat daw.”
The Health Nut Mom’s timeline is filled with different types of workouts and weight loss tips. She isn’t getting younger so might as well try to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet, right? Sometimes she might even tag you in weight loss posts or challenges. And her feed is full of smoothies, salad, and wellness tips.
Iconic line: “Try ko nga to. Ulam natin bukas.”
The Chef Mom is a fan of many easy-to-cook recipes pages. Since the ECQ started, she might have started trying different recipes to switch things up in the kitchen. When in restaurants, she’s the type to say, “Kaya ko ‘tong gawin eh. Mas masarap pa.” which will make your eyes roll but admit it, she’s probably right. She might go live from time to time as she cooks, and enjoys sharing her “creations” in the kitchen.
Iconic line: “Eh sabi dito sa video!”
Drinking game: take a shot every time this type of mom becomes a victim again of fake news. The Victim-of-Fake-News Mom probably just auto-shares anything interesting she sees, without fact-checking. Her argument: because this person is “dependable” and an “expert”. She’s also the type to get annoyed when you correct her, but will eventually accept defeat and promise to be careful in her next shared posts.
Iconic line: “Anak, paano palakihin yung letters?” as she squints at her screen.
The Non-Techy Mom is the type whose Facebook wall is almost empty and has a profile photo that she hasn’t changed since she created an account in 2012. She doesn’t share much and is just there to lurk. When asking for your help on how to share a post or tweak settings in her account, brace yourself because you may get yelled at when she can’t make it work. It requires a lot of patience but it’s always a relief when she finally learns how to navigate the interwebz.
Also, she doesn’t know how to use the reacts function; she always leaves likes. She may or may not understand how internet acronyms work (e.g. she still thinks LOL stands for “Lots Of Love” so she comments it in inappropriate places).
