YGIG (pronounced like the individual letters Y-G-I-G) was formed and created under the joint efforts of Show Biz Town (SBTown), a newly established company in the Philippines that specializes in talent management and artist promotion among other things, and Universal Records.
These girls went through four years of rigid training at the SBTalent Camp under the guidance of Korean trainer Adie Hong. According to Hong, there were about 20,000 P-pop hopefuls during the audition for the group but eventually, the seven girls made it to the cut.

YGIG stands for “You Go, I Go.” SBTown’s President and CEO, Mr. Geong Seong Han, popularly known as Tatang Robin, shared that he got the inspiration to name the group YGIG after a movie quote.
“Do not give up but let’s go together,” explained Han via an interpreter. “This is the message I want to relay to the young Filipino generation: Do not give up on your dreams and we will be here to go with you.”
“You Go, I Go” also reflects the group’s teamwork towards paving the way to the global stage for Filipina girl groups.
And if you’re wondering what their fandom name is, it’s “We Go,” completing the entire phrase “You go, I go, we go.”
Han is also the genius behind producing the now-global P-pop boy group, SB19. YGIG is his first set of artists to debut following SB19’s success, so you can rest assured these girls have what it takes to conquer both local and international stages.
During the media launch, the seven members of YGIG introduced themselves and did their group greeting for the first time (“Wherever you go, I go!”). The group is composed of Alexei, Maeg, JM, Vien, Darlene, Hazelyn, and Jewel, talented and well-rounded performers who can rap, dance, and sing.

“Shaba Shaba” is YGIG’s debut single, a catchy and upbeat hip-hop song that expresses the ultimate girl crush charm of the group. You can listen to it on Spotify right now!
The girls had a huge part in writing the lyrics thanks to SBTown encouraging them to explore their artistry. As for the song’s meaning, Han explains that “Shaba Shsaba” is a term used to cast a love spell on someone. It’s also a clever play on the Tagalog phrase “Siya ba?”
Years of hard work and practice paid off as the girls wowed everyone with their first live performance of “Shaba Shaba.”
“It definitely wasn’t easy,” said Alexei when asked about their trainee years. “And it required a lot of physical and mental strength but of course, we need to do all of that in order to reach where we are today and even further in the future. With the help and support of every member, together we were able to endure and persevere all of that. And we will continue to do so.”

With the success of their P-pop groups, SBTown isn’t stopping any time soon. Han confirmed they are planning multiple song releases for YGIG next year. But there’s even more exciting news: the launch of another P-pop boy group is well underway. While the details are sparse, if it’s Han’s expertise that has put these boys together and has guided them, we’re sure it’s another group of international artists in the making.
