Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp had a wonderful New Year surprise for everyone. On January 5, Noah has come out as gay via a chill TikTok video like the TikTok King that he is. Here’s what happened.
@noahschnappI guess I’m more similar to will than I thought♬ original sound – princessazula0
The 18-year-old came out as gay in the most Gen Z way possible. The short clip had a text that reads: “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years, and all they said was “we know,” while Noah lip-syncs to audio that says, “You know it never was that serious. It was never that serious.”
The TikTok video was also accompanied by a caption that further confirms his Stranger Things character Will Byers’ sexuality. “I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought,” wrote Noah.
Last July 2022, Noah confirmed everyone’s speculations that Will is gay and has feelings for Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard).
Fans across the world flooded Noah’s TikTok feed with words of encouragement. As of this writing, the TikTok video now has over 100k comments and nearly 17 million views.

Now, we will all sob even harder watching this scene. 😭
truly i could not be more happy that noah schnapp plays will byers. having a queer teenager represented and advocated for by a queer actor feels incredible.

LGBTQIA+ representation matters.
knowing that noah schnapp was 10 years old at the start of the stranger things and throughout it was able to not only learn so much about himself and his identity, but incorporate that into such a beautiful character. that takes courage and vulnerability. i’m so happy for him.

the fact that someone as famous as noah schnapp felt comfortable enough to come out to us as gay means so so much to me like he trusted us enough to tell us something so personal

We just love him!
Noah Schnapp came out today which 👏🏳️🌈, but I would just like to remind everyone that kids like him and Kit Connor were aggressively hounded by weird ass adults on this app to reveal their sexuality for entertainment, which is pretty fucked up. pic.twitter.com/cMd6lzztbo

Noah’s coming out was met with so much love, but some members of the LGBTQIA+ community sadly don’t receive similar warm responses. Responding with “Not surprised” or “We know!” isn’t exactly the best initial reaction. Even if you meant no harm, it’s insensitive and rude to assume someone’s sexuality based on stereotypes surrounding the LGBTQIA+ community.
What’s worse is there are even young celebrities, like Kit Connor, who are pressured to come out. Noah and Kit’s coming out are great reminders for everyone that one’s identity isn’t a mystery box or a puzzle the whole world has to guess correctly. These people are human and they deserve privacy and respect.
