A lot of folks are convinced that *somehow* the world ended in 2012 and we’ve been in a parallel universe ever since. Think about it. We were living our best lives in the early 2010s — OG YouTubers created quality content, the Billboard Hot 100 had actual banger tracks, and One Direction was still together. Fast forward to a decade later, we’re all recovering from a pandemic. Since we can’t travel back in time, production companies decided they will bring the 2010s to us with beloved franchises such as Twilight and Harry Potter now both set for their small-screen debut.
Your Hogwarts letter is here.

Potterheads were ecstatic when Warner Bros. Discovery unveiled its plan for a
decade-long Harry Potter TV series that will be “a faithful adaptation” of the books. In fact, it’s so faithful, they got J.K. Rowling herself on board as one of the executive producers (much to the dismay of many). While news of the production is yet to be announced, many are anticipating the series to be released on HBO Max in 2025.
The last time we saw Harry Potter and the gang was back in 2011 when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2 was released in cinemas. It became the highest-grossing movie of the year, earning $1.3 billion worldwide.

On the heels of the Harry Potter TV series announcement was another shocker. The Twilight Saga has a TV series in the works and author Stephanie Meyers is involved. Yes, your favorite pale creatures are coming back and the news has incited mixed reactions everywhere:
“Absolutely not. The reason the first Twilight series is still so beloved today is that it was shit, the actors knew it was shit and it just had such campy, silly, 2000s emo teenager energy. The overall atmosphere and feeling cannot be recreated in 2023 I fear,” said one viral tweet.
The first series ended in 2012 with the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2. While most of the actors in the movies make fun of it now, it did thrust Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson into international fame.

At this point, we’re convinced the TV series gods are blessing us with 2012-era content to make up for two years of lockdown. But hey, we’re not complaining. After the flop that is the two Percy Jackson movies in 2010 and 2013, Disney has finally green-lit it for a series and, much to the relief of fans, author Rick Riordan is very much involved.
Many, including Percy Jackson actor Walker Scobell himself, are speculating that the series will be launched in early 2024. While waiting, feel free to put the official trailer on loop, demigods:

After the first The Hunger Games movie premiered in 2012, the fandom hasn’t been the same since. Even though it has been 8 years since the last movie’s installment, THG lives on in memes, thirst trap TikTok edits, and fan fiction. And with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes about to hit theaters in November 2023, the fandom is about to go crazy soon.
This upcoming movie is based on Suzanne Collins’ 2020 novel and is a prequel that gives viewers a closer look at Coriolanus Snow in his teenage years, decades before he became the ruthless leader of Panem.
Still not convinced that we’ve somehow circled back to 2012 with all those movie and series releases? Maybe a quick look at the music industry will do it for you. The early 2010s brought us the best in every genre — pop, indie, rock, electro-pop, you name it! And now they’re somehow coming back.
Taylor Swift, The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Paramore, and Bruno Mars are currently on tour and even Ed Sheeran is about to release an album. Carly Rae Jepsen shot to fame with her banger of a song “Call Me Maybe” and a more than a decade later, she recently performed it in Wanderland at Alabang to a crowd that roared it back to her.
If we’re nostalgic for the 2010s, then maybe, with all of this happening, it’s nostalgic for us too.
