You know that feeling when you’ve finished a good book, but you don’t want to let it go, so you keep it on your shelf. Then you buy more books that you don’t want to let go of, and your shelf quickly becomes full, and you’re left with no space for a new one. How will you get new books to read?! Don’t worry; we think we’ve found the solution. If you’re a bookworm who has run out of shelf space for new reads, this book-swapping program might be just for you.

SM Book Nook

The brainchild of Shereen Sy, the SM Book Nook is an open library that allows visitors to browse a growing collection of titles, donate books, and foster a love of reading within a supportive community. More than just a place of learning, it’s also a hub that sparks interest and curiosity as it serves as a host to a variety of events and activities catering to diverse interests.

SM Book Nook opened its first branch in SM Aura Premier in Taguig four years ago. This month, it opened its second branch in The Podium in Mandaluyong, ready to welcome readers who would indulge in new books or even swap their old ones.

How the book exchange program works

If you have a book you’ve read dozens of times, you might want to consider swapping your old books for other titles at the SM Book Nook. Here’s how it works.

Choose the books you want to swap and count them. The number of books you have is the number of books you can get (1:1 exchange).
Head to the SM Book Nook in The Podium or SM Aura Premier, and approach the Book Nook ambassador.
Inform them you want to exchange your books with those in the Book Nook.
Choose which books you want. Note that books with stickers cannot be exchanged. It’s okay if you can’t choose up to the total number of books you have.
Confirm the books you chose with the Book Nook ambassador.
Once done, you can bring them home and read them to your heart’s content!

If you just want to declutter, you can also simply donate your old books, so other book lovers can enjoy them while relaxing at the Book Nook.
