Life’s like one big thoroughfare, and every responsible driver knows that the key to a smooth, hassle-free ride is being prepared for unexpected roadblocks. Let’s face it: we’ve all had that mini-heart attack of realizing our license is in our other pants. But thankfully, the government is finally catching up to the 21st century with the eDriver’s License (eDL). Here’s everything you need to know about the eDL and how you can access it in seconds.

What’s an eDriver’s License? 

An eDL is a digital copy of your physical driver’s license issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO). All LTO personnel are mandated to recognize eDLs as valid forms of identification and proof of authority to operate a motor vehicle, in accordance with the DOTr Department Order No. 2023-015, issued in 2023. 

“For example wala po kayong actual physical card pero may e-driver’s license kayo at kayo po ay nahuli o mayroon kayong paglabag sabihin na natin, ang gagawin n’yo lang po ay ipakita nyo sa enforcer ang inyong e-driver’s license na to be accessed through LTMS portal at ‘yan po ay allowed,” said Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Gionvanni Lopez in an interview.

If you have an existing, valid driver’s license, you automatically have an eDL that can be accessed online. There are two ways to get your eDL. 

How to get your eDL via the eGovPH App

Step 1: Download the eGovPH App from the Google Play Store (for Android users) or the App Store (for Apple users).

Step 2: Register and create an eGovPH App account. You will need to complete the facial verification process to access government IDs.

Step 3: Once you’re verified, click “NGAs”, select LTO, and then choose “Online Driver’s License Application.”

Step 4: Upload an ID picture (portrait) and a copy of your current Driver’s License showing the front and back. Your driver’s license shouldn’t be expired.

Step 5: Complete all required fields and sign with your digital signature.

Step 6: Submit and wait for approval within 24 to 48 hours. You will see your eDL on your Mobile ID Wallet once it has been approved. 

How to get your eDL via the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) Portal

Step 1: Register or log in to the LTMS Portal.

Step 2: Click the “Digital ID” section.

Step 3: You can now view your eDL.

Is a screenshot or printed copy of your eDL accepted by the LTO?

No. Unfortunately, the LTO does not recognize a screenshot or a printed copy of your eDL as a valid license. The eDL contains security features and details that must be verified in real-time, so you must have an active and stable internet connection to present the eDL directly via the eGovPH App or the LTMS portal.
