Hong Kong has always been a popular travel destination for Pinoys. Shopping, great eats, and family-friendly attractions are what Pinoys keep coming back for. There’s an experience for every type of traveler, especially at attractions like Ocean Park Hong Kong.
Ocean Park has been creating fond memories since it first opened its doors in 1977. Decades later, the world-class destination continues to spread its magic, and we had the chance to experience it all. From thrilling rides and activities to swanky accommodations, here’s everything we loved at Ocean Park Hong Kong:
Ocean Park Hong Kong spans over 91.5 hectares, separated into two areas:
Park visitors have two options to travel seamlessly to and from these major park areas: via cable car or express train.
Suspended 205 meters above the South China Sea, the Cable Car ride is one of the park’s iconic attractions. The eight-minute, breezy ride offers one of the most scenic views in the park and can transport up to 3,600 visitors per hour. With 250 cars moving constantly all day, you don’t need to worry about long queues.
If you’re afraid of heights and you want a faster way to return at the end of the day, you can opt for the Ocean Express. This funicular system transports guests in just five minutes and features interiors reminiscent of a 19th-century explorer’s submarine. Don’t forget to look up during your ride, as the train has screens that simulate an underwater journey.
These modes of transportation make Ocean Park the first and only place that operates three ropeway systems: two aerial cable car systems and a tunnel funicular system.
There’s a reason why Ocean Park is Hong Kong’s best amusement park: it’s not only for entertainment, but it’s also an educational venue for learning about and interacting with various animals. Located at The Waterfront, Amazing Asian Animals brings together some of Asia’s rarest animals. If you’ve always wanted to see adorable pandas IRL, you shouldn’t miss the Giant Panda Adventure.
You’ll find the adorable, gentle giants in a huge exhibit that recreates their natural habitat in China, complete with a garden, rock walls, and bamboo. The dome is also cooler than the outdoors, which mimics the highlands. They play relaxing music here, too!
Here, you can say hello to the lovable twin pandas, Jia Jia (Elder Sister) and De De (Little Brother), who are just over a year old. Unlike the older pandas, which were gifted from China, the twin one-year-old pandas were successfully bred in Hong Kong.
Inside the exhibit, you’ll also see the giant pandas’ equally adorable neighbors, the red pandas.
Ocean Park is home to a diverse range of restaurants offering a variety of cuisines, from Thai to Western fare. But if you’re looking for a unique dining experience, make sure to book a reservation at Neptune’s Restaurant. Feel like you’re dining under the sea as you feast on a Chinese fine dining menu right next to The Grand Aquarium.
As one of the largest aquariums in Asia, The Grand Aquarium houses over 200 marine species. You’ll find over 5,000 fish here!
P.S. Neptune’s Restaurant is the largest aquarium restaurant in Hong Kong.
Vibrant neon lights, murals, and trams – this is the classic Hong Kong we all know. While these neon lights have been taken down in city streets in recent years, you can still get a feel of the ’50s to ’70s at Old Hong Kong.
A trip to Hong Kong isn’t complete without having some egg waffles! It’s a good thing, then, that aside from being a great place for picture-taking, the vibrant street also features classic Hong Kong eats, such as the Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded Mammy Pancake.
When the outdoor weather is already too hot, cool off at the South Pole Spectacular and say hi to penguins. Feel like you’re in their natural habitat as the temperature goes as low as 8°C.
For an additional fee, you can even book a feeding session where you can get up close to the flightless sea birds.
No plans for Halloween yet? Be ready to scream your lungs out and meet ghouls, skeletons, and monsters around Ocean Park when you visit during spooky season. Halloween Fest is one of the park’s biggest festivals, and this year’s celebration features six thrilling haunted houses that will let you experience horrors in different forms:
In between visiting these haunted houses, don’t forget to catch variety shows featuring entertaining performances by creepy characters, such as Gangnam’s Devils.
You can experience this year’s Halloween Fest until November 2, 2025, from 10 AM to 7 PM. The haunted houses are open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays only from 5 PM to 11 PM. Schedule your visit accordingly!
When you think you can already experience it all at The Waterfront and at The Summit, the fun continues at Water World Ocean Park. Covering nearly 700,000 square feet of land, Water World features 27 indoor and outdoor attractions across five themed zones, all in a series of terraced platforms overlooking the South China Sea.
The attractions have different intensity levels, so there’s one fit for all ages – from kids to fearless adults. For the thrill seekers, you shouldn’t miss the Rainbow Rush, the Vortex, the Skyhigh Falls, and the fear-inducing Daredevil Drop.
If you’re looking for a more relaxed water park experience, visit the Horizon Cove or the Lazy Cruise. And when you get hungry, there are plenty of dining options around the water park as well.
Let’s be real: a day trip isn’t enough to experience the best of Ocean Park Hong Kong. While the park has a train station that directly connects you to the city, it’s probably more convenient to stay at resort hotels in the area.
Located just a few steps from the park, the Hong Kong Ocean Park Marriott Hotel is a 471-room hotel that offers a full suite of resort and business facilities in a green city oasis. It features a 16-meter aquarium in the main lobby, a lagoon, and luxe amenities. We got to stay in a one king best guest room with a pool view, and you can see the cable cars from afar!
Experience waking up to a panoramic view of the ocean when you stay at the luxe five-star hotel, The Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong. The hotel features 425 well-appointed rooms, and we had the opportunity to stay in an Oceanfront Room with a king-sized bed.
The hotel’s swanky amenities include a picturesque infinity pool, where you’ll have the sea and Ap Lei Pai island as your background.
The Fullerton is also within walking distance of Water World and offers a free shuttle ride to Ocean Park Hong Kong, departing every 30 minutes.
Whether you’re a first-timer in Hong Kong or you’re looking for more activities to do in the city, Ocean Park Hong Kong is a destination you shouldn’t miss. Even after spending a weekend here, there’s still so much more to see. It’s an amusement park that will make you keep coming back for more!
