Pinoys have had to weather through quite a few shocking revelations these past few days. First, there was Manny Pacquiao’s alleged illegitimate son. Now, we’re processing news of Francis Magalona’s love affair with a woman named Abigail Rait. What on earth is happening?

Abigail Rait introduces herself as Francis M’s ex-lover

In the October 17 episode of Boss Toyo’s “Pinoy Pawnstars,” Rait, a former flight attendant, revealed her alleged relationship with the King of Pinoy Rap. Rait went to the shop to sell a jersey that she claimed Magalona had given her. She was with her daughter, Gail Francesca. The jersey included a photo of her and Magalona and a short note that said “Abigail, hon, I love you so much,” signed by the rapper.

Rait said she first crossed paths with Magalona when she went to watch Eat Bulaga sometime in 2006.

“Noong nagka-anak kami, buntis ako noon. And that’s her,” said Rait, pointing to her daughter. “Her name is Gail Francesca. [Si Francis] ang nag-pangalan diyan. Gail [from] Abigail, Francis [to] Francesca.”

When asked about the story behind the jersey, Rait said Magalona wore it one time when he visited her.

“Ngayon, syempre, buntis ako, nag-tatantrums na ko. Busy siya sa US tour with Bulaga. Nagrereklamo na ako sobrang busy siya na wala ng time for me,” she said. “There’s this one time umuwi siya sa Cavite sa bahay, nagtataka ako suot niya, pagbaba ng kotse, itong jersey na to. Kasi ang usual niyang suot ay kung anong suot niya sa show or sa Eat Bulaga. Minsan kasi after Eat Bulaga, derecho na siya sa Cavite to visit me.”

When she asked Magalona why he was wearing the jersey, he said it was so that she would always remember him whenever she wore it.

“Pagdating namin sa room, sabi niya, okay baby mama, yun ang tawag niya sa akin. Gusto ko kasi maalala mo itong jersey na ito habang suot ko. Para everytime mamiss mo ako, you just have to wear it or hug it, or place it beside you bago ka matulog,” she said.

Rait said she knew Magalona had cancer. In fact, a month later, in August, he had his executive check-up. But back then, all he told her was “I-keep mo [yang jersey]. That’s for you. That’s for our baby.”

A secret for 15 years?

Rait gave birth to their daughter on September 8, 2008. She said she was in constant communication with the rapper who called her every day from the hospital. He passed away six months after on March 6, 2009.

“For 15 years, nanahimik ako. I didn’t say anything about me and my daughter. Siguro eto na lang yung karapatan na pwede kong magawa para sa kanya,” said a teary-eyed Rait, pointing to her daughter. “Kasi hindi naman ako nag-salita eh. I know people will judge me. But we exist. What we had is real. We exist. Mahal niya kami and that’s a fact.”

Rait also proudly shared that her daughter inherited Magalona’s artistic side — she can sing, dance, draw, paint, and even rap.

The Internet unearths 2009 blog post

Apparently, this isn’t the first time folks have heard of Rait and Magalona’s love affair. Back in 2009, the rumor mill was already in overdrive after photos of the pair circulated online. A blog posted in 2009 even compiled the photos in an article entitled “Abigail Rait: Francis Magalona’s Other Woman?”

In these, Rait and Magalona looked like a proper couple, wearing matching rings. The photos also showed Rait’s pregnancy journey as well as a few group shots with Eat Bulaga hosts like Wally Bayola and Ruby Rodriguez.

“Saklap lang, alam pa pala ng Eat Bulaga Dabarkads. Hay, [feeling] betrayed si Pia malamang ngayon,” read one comment made in June 2009.

“Not really, Pia knows about it. In fact, Maxene [was the one who] said Francis took revenge because Pia had an affair with an older married man,” read another comment dated May 2014.

Why now?

Pinoys are understandably upset after finding out that someone they had idolized was unfaithful. But they were equally upset at Rait, too, for revealing the connection 15 years later. Many were asking what she had to gain from the revelation.

“Nothing against dun sa anak ni Francis M sa labas pero grabe romanticizing pangangabit? Kawawa yung bata and kawawa din si Pia at mga anak nya. Aware man sila o hindi. Why are we celebrating homewreckers and cheaters?” read one post on X.

“Nakakatawa lang kasi na parang pavictim pa si Ate gurl na kabit? Na ang tagal daw nyang nanahimik? Malamang may pamilya teh. Also, kayang motive nung pag-reveal nya ngayon sa public na may anak sila ni Francis M?” said another.

Others are hailing Pia for allegedly knowing about the affair and choosing to protect her husband’s name: “Bilib ako kay Pia Magalona kung ganon. She protected the name of her husband all these years. So may cancer na si Francis M noong may nangyari sa kanila? He was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 and 15 years ago is 2008? Nakakaloka ang pasabog.”
