Did You Know Angelica Panganiban Could’ve Been in ‘Four Sisters and a Wedding’?

The film Four Sisters and a Wedding has made its mark on Philippine cinema and pop culture landscape as an iconic film. So many Pinoys love quoting lines and making memes out of the movie’s scenes. But did you know that the film’s cast might’ve been quite different? It turns out that actress Angelica Panganiban could’ve been in Four Sisters and a Wedding.
A role she turned down that she regretted the most

In an interview with Boy Abunda on his Youtube channel, the host asked Angelica if there’s a role she turned down that went to other people which made her regret her decision. Angelica’s immediate answer was “Yung Four Sisters.”
She actually hasn’t watched the film
Angelica admitted that she still hasn’t watched the film, even eight years after the movie first came out. “Hanggang ngayon, hindi ko siya pinapanood,” she said.
Why did she turn it down?
The actress remained vague on the reasons why she turned down the project. “May mga hindi lang nagkasunduan sa mga agreement, ganyan, so parang, ‘Wag na lang . . . Pero noong guman’on ako, ‘Wag na lang,’ ‘Okay,’ sabi ng Star Cinema. Parang ako, ‘Bakit nag-okay sila kaagad?” she laughed.
Almost a project with friends
Angelica is actually close friends with two of the lead actresses Four Sisters and a Wedding, namely Angel Locsin and Bea Alonzo. The three share a close friendship (Anne Curtis-Smith is also in their barkada). If Angelica accepted the offer back then, it would’ve been 3 out of 4 of the friends working in one movie.
Angelica wasn’t alone
There were other stars like Angelica who *almost* turned down a role in the iconic film. Toni Gonzaga, who played Teddie in the film, tried to back out of the film twice. She shared this during another interview with Abunda.
“Tito Boy, dalawang beses akong nagpunta kay Tita Malou noon,” the actress said, referring to Star Cinema chief operating officer Malou Santos. “Talagang I was begging off. Nakiusap ako, ‘Tita Malou, hindi ko po yata talaga kaya. Nakakahiya po. Baka hindi ko po mabigay yung hiningi.’ Dalawang beses ‘yon. Yung pangalawa ko pa, kasabay ko pa si Direk Cathy [Garcia-Molina]. Sabi ko, ‘Paano ko tatanggihan nandito si Direk Cathy?’ Sabi ni Tita Malou, ‘Anong sasabihin mo?’ [Sabi ko], ‘Parang hindi ko po yata kaya.’” She admitted she was intimidated by her fellow actresses Bea Alonzo, Angel Locsin, and Shaina Magdayao, who were “queen[s] in their own rights and . . . all best actresses already during that time.”
On her retirement
The actress briefly touched on her decision to retire from teleseryes when Abunda asked how difficult the decision was. “Until now, Tito Boy, difficult pa din siya,” the actress said.

She said she wanted to go on another direction as an actress. “Siguro gusto ko talagang panindigan dahil may ibang direksyon na siyang gustong gawin ngayon—well, si Angge, may ibang direksyon na siyang gustong gawin—na hindi ko nakikita na matutupad ‘yon kung sobrang involved pa din ako sa teleserye.”
