Anime Films to Binge Watch This Weekend

4. Hotarubi no Mori e (Into the Forest of Fireflies’ Light)

This short and heartwarming film tells of a simple story revolving around a child who gets lost in an enchanted forest and is rescued by a masked spirit. The two become friends despite the warnings of the other forest dwellers who remind the spirit that he will disappear should he ever touch a human.

 

3. Wolf Children

Wolf Children begins as a love story between a university student and a mysterious man from her class with whom she becomes enamored and eventually bears children with. But when tragedy struck when they least expected it, the mother is left to raise her half-human half-wolf children on her own. The struggle the children must face growing up harboring a secret takes a toll on each of them, and they must make a decision that will affect their futures and their happiness.

A visual treat unlike usual anime films, Tekkonkinkreet follows the story of two orphan boys, Black and White, who run amok in the streets of Treasure City. But when their city and way of life is threatened by the strongest adversaries they’ll ever face, they take responsibility to save their home while saving each other from the darkness within themselves.

What could be the most talked-about anime film of the year, Kimi no Na wa has captured the hearts of many with its unique story, stunning animation, and beautiful soundtrack. It tells a story of two High School students who have never met but wake up in each other’s bodies on random days. But despite the unfathomable distance between them, they must work together to prevent a large-scale incident beyond themselves from happening.
