It’s only been a week since the turn of the year, but the JaDine fandom can’t catch a break. After rumors of a break up with days of silence from the couple and a supposed confirmation of the rumor by Philippine Star writer Ricky Lo, Nadine Lustre allowed their fans to relax when she cleared things up in her Instagram story.
But after only a couple days of peace, another issue from another journalist rocks the fandom. In a controversial radio show, DZMM’s Jobert Sucaldito makes inappropriate, insensitive, and disturbing comments that made JaDine fans’ hackles rise up, leading to the hashtags #ApologizeToNadine and #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert to trend on Twitter. On air, Sucaldito said:
“Di kami ang may pakulo ng lahat ng ito. Wala kaming alam sa buhay ng mga idols ninyo. Sila ang naggawa-gawa ng mga kwento na mali namin ay pinatulan namin. Di ba? Kaya lumaki at medyo napag-uusapan. Di ba yun naman ang gusto nila? Kuno kuno may mga labas ang pwet, naka-T-back pa dun sa building tapos may nakalagay na mga caption na mga parang gustong tumalon. Sana tumalon na lang kung ganun din naman pala.”
Honestly, who wouldn’t be? Jobert made suicide seem like a joke, which is never, ever ok.
TANGINA. IRRESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM. JOBERT YOU’RE ONE BIG ENTITLED AND PROBLEMATIC MAN WHO THINKS SUICIDE IS A JOKE AND SLUT SHAMING IS OKAY. I HOPE YOUR ASS GETS SUED AND YOU LOSE YOUR JOB. YOU DON’T DESERVE TO BE IN YOUR FIELD#SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert#ApologizeToNadine

Here’s something we can all agree on: Nadine would look great filing a suit while wearing an actual suit.
The year is 2020 and Nadine Lustre may be wearing her first suit when she finally decides to submit a libel case and sue Jobert Sucaldito’s whack ass. Now that’s an OOTD I can’t wait to see lmaoooo #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert

Fans won’t complain.
“Kapit tayo, kaya natin ‘to lampasan lahat.” Nadine Lustre (2018)
A woman who spearheaded this campaign & shared her experiences to empower others & help raise awareness.. doesn’t deserve this.#SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert #ApologizeToNadine

After suffering from depression, Nadine has always been open about her mental health. She is one of the biggest advocates of mental health in the Philippines, and receiving comments like this from a member of the media is a disrespect toward her advocacy. She doesn’t deserve this.
Nadine is such a loving person. A person with so much care for others. Her advocacies inspire so many people. She doesn’t deserve to be treated this way.#SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert#ApologizeToNadinepic.twitter.com/r4cz5tmv6r

Conspiracy theories abound . . . and it seems not too far-fetched at the rate things are going.
Just requoting my tweet 3 days ago. It will be a bumpy road for us and JaDine so please continue to protect the two. Defend and protect #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert https://t.co/hIOB1YUu1j

Sucaldito told Nadine to show respect for fellow journalist Lo, but this one fan points out something important: “How can she show him respect if he can’t even respect her?”
Had to post it on Facebook too. #SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert#ApologizeToNadine pic.twitter.com/qQQmUyXdyY

“Sana tumalon na lang” (si Nadine sa building) – Jobert Sucaldito
If this isn’t disturbing for you & you will still side with him, ewan ko na lang. What he said warrants termination from his work @gingreyes.#SuicideIsNotAJokeJobert#ApologizeToNadine

Fans have been calling out ABS-CBN, the mother company of DZMM, to do something about Sucaldito. And they were quick to respond. ABS-CBN’s News Chief Ging Reyes posted a statement on her Twitter account, saying the broadcasting company will be investigating and taking action about the matter.

This Twitter thread makes the most important point about this controversy. Need we say more?
I just wanna say that this issue is bigger than Nadine and this fandom. This is mental health. A vast number of Filipinos especially teenagers suffer from depression. We’re trying so hard to break the stigma from mental illness++#suicideisnotajokejobert #ApologizeToNadine
