Your Next Road Trip

A mind-blowing (or belt-popping) dessert is always a sufficient reason for a road trip. While the metro’s culinary scene is wealthy with all sorts of treats, there are so much more beyond the city’s borders that you have yet to enjoy. Gather the gang, pack your bag and leave room for dessert because here’s the excuse you’ve been waiting for. Check out 8 out-of-town desserts that are absolutely worth the drive.

8. The Original Buko Pie’s Pies

via bukopiemadness. wordpress.com

National Highway, Los Baños, Laguna | (049) 536 3783
Caltex Station, Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Silang, Cavite

You can’t miss the long line at The Original Buko Pie’s original branch in Los Baños. Their pies have literally caused traffic, especially the signature Buko Pie. Try its flaky crust and generous filling of soft, milky buko; you’ll understand what the fuss is all about. For those who prefer something more tart, their Pineapple Pie won’t disappoint, too.

7. Breakfast at Antonio’s Housemade Cheesecake

Aguinaldo Highway, Bagong Tubig, Tagaytay City
(046) 413 0738 | Facebook | Website
Open everyday from 7am to 9pm

Drive up to Tagaytay for breakfast, and your effort to wake up early will be duly rewarded. As your delicious prize, you can have a standout cheesecake along with your breakfast. The housemade cheesecakes from Breakfast at Antonio’s are simple desserts, transformed into well-executed culinary delights. Perfectly luscious and balanced—the Salted Caramel and Salted Chocolate Truffle Cheesecakes will make the early drive so worth it.

6. Vizco’s Strawberry Shortcake

Open everyday from 7am to 10pm

Some people pay the NLEX toll fees for Baguio’s cool weather, top quality produce and ukay-ukay finds. But there are also some people who brave the Kennon Road traffic for the sole reason of Vizco’s Strawberry Shortcake. The cake is always freshly made, bringing out the best in Baguio’s famous, juicy and sweet strawberries.

5. El Union Coffee’s Indoor S’mores

via looloo.com

Surf Beach, San Juan, La Union | Facebook
Open Tuesday to Thursday from 1pm to 9pm | Friday to Saturday from 8am to pm

Before you catch La Union’s awesome waves, get a caffeine fix with a side of a delectable sugar rush. Pair El Union Coffee’s fresh brews with their Indoor S’mores. Watch the charming baristas prepare it right in front of you. Within a few minutes, you’ll be served melted chocolate topped with gooey, torched marshmallows. Enjoy scooping it out with graham crackers. Come back the next day to try their Bacon Maple Jam Grilled Cheese and Cookie Skillet next.
