The Wolf is back in the Philippines, and it’s about to go on tour across the nation. Big Bad Wolf (BBW) Book Sale, a.k.a. the biggest book sale, will kick off its “Big Bad Tour: Mission 1 New Million Readers” at Parqal, Aseana City, from May 24 to June 2, 2024. BBW is more than just about snagging budget-friendly books; they’re on a mission to cultivate a lifelong love of reading among Filipinos of all ages. Here’s what awaits Pinoy book lovers.
Yup, the Wolf has a new home this year! It’s at the recently opened Parqal Mall in Aseana City, Pasay, a quick 4-minute drive from the SM Mall of Asia Arena and 7 minutes from the World Trade Center.
The tour promises an unparalleled experience, featuring meet-and-greets with beloved authors, storytelling sessions, and interactive events crafted to make reading a joyous and enlightening pursuit. These festivities are open to schools, families, and readers of all ages, contributing to the movement to reshape the country’s reading landscape.
Bookworms, this is your cue to howl in excitement. This year’s sale brings a monstrous selection of books — over 2 million brand-new reads across all genres. And since BBW is all about making the joy of reading accessible to everyone, brace yourselves for budget-friendly finds and discoveries.
“Reading opens doors to new worlds and opportunities,” said Big Bad Wolf Co-founder Jacqueline Ng during a media event ahead of the book sale’s opening. “With ‘Mission 1 New Million Readers,’ we are taking concrete steps towards changing lives through books. Our goal is not just to promote literacy but also to ignite a lifelong passion for reading across the Philippines.”
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Philippines Datu Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, emphasized the importance of empowering younger generations to help bring the country to greater heights. “What we are doing today is to inspire the younger generation to build a better Philippines,” said the Malaysian ambassador.
During the event, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary of Legislative Affairs Fatima Aliah Dimaporo, highlighted the efforts being made by the DSWD, in collaboration with Big Bad Wolf Books and the Malaysian embassy, to help address the need for improved literacy in underprivileged communities.
Thinking about bringing a car to help lug your book haul home? Don’t worry, there are FREE 1,500 parking slots at Parqal Mall daily. You read that right, FREE. Say goodbye to the parking ticket budget and hello to additional book funds!
The book sale also marks the enduring collaboration between Big Bad Wolf and Metrobank, extending a 0% 3-month installment promo for purchases worth at least P3,000 to Metrobank cardholders. That’s not all! Swedish home furnishings brand, IKEA, will also grace the Parqal leg of the book tour with a special treat for visitors.
Mark your calendars for the Big Bad Wolf Book Sale, running from May 24 to June 2, 2024 at Parqal, Aseana City. Doors open from 10 a.m. to 12 m.n., and admission is free. Catch the “Big Bad Tour: 1 New Million Readers” in Manila. An amazing reading adventure awaits!
