Big Bad Wolf goes online for 2021

As much as Big Bad Wolf Books founder Jacqueline Ng wants to hold a physical event in the Philippines, current pandemic protocols hinder her team. So they’re giving us the next best thing: Big Bad Wolf Books goes online. Mark your calendars because from June 30 to July 7 you can shop online at the world’s biggest book sale. It’s still a 24/7 event so you don’t have to worry about running out of time to shop. While you can’t browse the aisles, smell the books, and feel them before you buy them, you can add them to your cart and at huge discounts too.

 

Here’s what you can expect

Firstly, expect a nationwide reach. If before you would have to travel to key cities in the Philippines such as Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, and Pampanga to get your fix of discounted books, now you can purchase them anywhere you are in the country. Over 60,000 titles are available at discounts up to 99% off. Imagine buying a book for P10!

 

Which books will be available?

Unlike a physical sale where the volume of books is limited by the venue space, BBW online has the advantage of showcasing its entire catalog. Everything from fiction, non-fiction, classics, graphic novels, YA, coffee table books, self-help books, art books, and children’s books will be available.

 

Where can I access the website?

Visit the Big Bad Wolf website and refresh the page once the timer gets to zero. Starting June 30, you can browse all categories for books and them to your cart or your wishlist. The handy search bar at the top of the page can also lead you straight to your favorite books. BBW co-founder Andrew Yap did tell everyone not to worry about the website crashing from the thousands of expected visitors. They’ve beefed up the system to make it more “stable.”

 

Want to get more vouchers?

Good news for those strapped for cash, aside from discounts, you can also win vouchers to use on your haul. Stay tuned on the official Facebook page of Big Bad Wolf Books for their promos. They’ve got an ongoing meme-making contest where makers of the funniest BBW meme will get a P500 voucher. The contest is until June 23, you still have time to cook up a clever one! How to get discounts and deals

Watch out for BBW’s amazing discounts and deals. Enter the promo code “BBWPH5%” to get a 5% discount with a minimum purchase of P1,200 and “BBWPH10%” to get a 10% discount for a P5000 purchase. As for the P10 books, you get access to that with a minimum purchase of P1,800. Other special deals for specific books will also be announced during the sale.

 

What about the shipping fee?

The shipping fee is subject to the volume of your purchase and your location. You can maximize your experience and get free shipping anywhere in the Philippines with a minimum purchase of P2,900. To give you an idea of shipping costs, Ng said that five books weighing three kilograms will most likely have a P145 shipping fee to Metro Manila and a P290 fee in Mindanao. You might want to join forces with your friends’ carts to lower the costs or get free shipping.

Unlike physical BBW book sales where you get to bring your book haul home immediately, you’ll have to wait for 18-24 business days before your online purchase reaches your door. This is because these books are shipped from Malaysia. Looks like bookworms will have to stock up on patience too.

The BBW website lets you pay for your haul via online banking, mobile wallet, and credit card (Dragonpay, eGHL, GCash, GrabPay, BDO, and BPI). Cash on delivery (COD) is not available.

 

How to prepare for BBW online

Now that BBW is only a week away, you might want to do a few things in preparation:

• List down the books you want to buy. Window shopping is great but to maximize your time and add the important ones to your cart, it’s better if you list them down first.
• Familiarize yourself with the layout of the website. BookXcess, the Malaysian version of BBW, has the same layout. Go ahead and visit their website to get an idea of what it looks like.
• Write down important discount codes. You might want to get a sticky note to write “BBWPH5%” and “BBWPH10%” for discounts on P1,200 and P5,000 book hauls respectively.
• Call up your friends and family. The shipping fee will be a little hefty if you have to shoulder it by yourself so call them up and make a plan to reach that P2,900 haul for free shipping.
• Don’t forget to enjoy it. You’re about to add new books to your shelf and at such amazing discounts too — that’s cause for celebration!
