BINI just made history with their first-ever performance at Coachella—and they didn’t just deliver on vocals and visuals. Every detail of their stage presence was intentionally Filipino, from their striking gold ensembles paired with salakot headpieces to their seamless transformation into ocean sirens mid-set. But did you know their jaw-dropping gold outfits were made from sustainable materials?

Designer Job Dacon revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that each gold outfit was crafted from sheets of real gold leaf and about 2 pounds of recycled plastic.
“Ingenuity and sustainability finally meet the international stage!” he wrote.
Dacon collaborated with stylist Ica Villanueva and designer Marian Zara, who developed the beige denim base of the looks. The intricate gold detailing drew inspiration from calado, a traditional carving style commonly seen in Filipino heritage houses, bringing architectural history into contemporary stagewear.

The team also incorporated custom-made seashell elements, molded after scallops native to Bantayan Island, adding another layer of local influence.
The process was as meticulous as it sounds. According to Dacon, one of the most labor-intensive steps involved melting recycled plastic and hand-gilding each piece before assembling the final outfits.
Zara, who has worked with BINI since their early days, also shared behind-the-scenes glimpses on Instagram, highlighting the use of local weaving techniques.
“Proud ate here—creating your outfits since day one, from your digital concert to the Coachella stage,” she wrote. “Watching your journey unfold has been nothing short of inspiring.”
Mid-performance, BINI stunned the crowd with an onstage costume transformation—shedding their gold layers to reveal ethereal blue-green ensembles underneath.
The second look, styled by Villanueva and designed by Raf Villas, leaned into a fluid, oceanic aesthetic. Think iridescent textures, wave-like silhouettes, and shell-inspired details that echoed the sea, perfectly complementing the group’s “ocean siren” concept.
Villas described creating the costumes as both challenging and rewarding: “Years of working with these amazing girls led to this moment—aiming to surpass every look that we’ve done before. Challenging, but it pushed us further than we expected.”
