Bitter No More: The Amazing Perks of Being a Third Wheel

Bitter No More: The Amazing Perks of Being a Third Wheel

Feb 3, 2020   •   Ina Louise Manto

Odd one out: you’re the only single person left in your group of friends. I get it: constantly rolling your eyes over cringey PDA, rain checks, and slowly sinking into oblivion because your friends have already gotten their person. You may not have someone to Netflix and Chill with at the end of the day but there are actually perks to being the third wheel:

You have more friends

You know what they say, the more the merrier. With more people in the mix, decision-making wouldn’t be so hard anymore as you’ve got a variety of opinions and perspectives.

You learn about relationships

Perks Of Being The Third Wheel
Being around couples gives you a first-hand guide to relationships. Who needs a copy of Dating for Dummies when you get to observe the ins and outs of your friends’ relationships—the good and the bad? You’ll learn what works and what doesn’t so when your turn arrives, you might be able to handle your relationship better.

You help make the relationship work

Many would agree that friendships drift when one gets into a new relationship, which isn’t great. But mature relationships include a lot of patience and understanding that they’ve got lives outside their relationship. Providing your friend with a fulfilling relationship outside of their romantic one will help them become a better partner in the long run.

You get free food

Perks Of Being The Third Wheel

This is one of the best perks of being a third wheel! Maybe it’s just a Filipino thing to treat friends when inviting them to third-wheel on dates, but it’s always fun to bond over food. Shameless, you think. But no one says “no” to free food!

You have wing-people

Of course, most couples wouldn’t want you to feel left out, so many would go the extra mile to hook you up to meet potential partners. And you know these guys/girls will be the best of the bests because they’re screened by your best buds! Who knows, it might not be long before you stop being the third wheel.

You’ll see all the lovey-dovey moments

It’s awkward at first. And yes, they make your eyes roll but look at the bright side: you can blackmail them with funny photos and videos you end up capturing. You’ll always have something to laugh about. And should things work out for your friend in the end, it’s a sweet thing to be able to share their story from your perspective on their big day.

You always have a shoulder to cry on

Just because your friend has a romantic relationship doesn’t mean that you lose their support. Good friends will stick by you to cheer you on, and when they’re coupled up, their partner could be a good source of support as well. Also, they will not be afraid to call you out when they know you’re going off the right path or when something or someone isn’t good for you.

You get to have more activity companions

Perks Of Being The Third Wheel

Planning to see a movie or trying the latest escape room? Couples are always on the lookout for new activities to try on their dates, so you’re bound to have people who would always be game.

And the best part is… you get to realize that being single isn’t so bad at all.

Seriously, who needs a partner when you’ve got best friends who would never turn their backs on you? Being the single one isn’t really as bad as how we see it in movies. At the end of the day, you’ve got so much time for yourself and you’ll learn how to love yourself more. For now, just enjoy the third wheel life and maybe you’ll have your magical time too someday.
