We bet you didn’t know that Boysen (yes, the paint brand) has a streaming site where you can watch classic films, Viva Films, even ones dating back to the 1950s. Studio B’s curated catalog includes all sorts of titles. Aside from the website, you can also access these films via an app available on both Android and iOS.
While the reason eludes us as to why Boysen, being a paint brand and all, would launch a website solely for the purpose of letting people watch films for free, we’re still here for it. You do have to note, however, that not all films are in excellent condition when it comes to resolution and audio, but as it’s all free, we can’t complain.
Yup, when we said classic, they’re really classic. Studio B’s action blockbusters section has 14 films available including Captain Barbell (1986) starring Edu Manzano, Sharon Cuneta, Herbert Bautista, and Dina Bonnevie, Tulak ng Bibig, Kabig ng Dibdib (1998) starring Maricel Soriano and Robin Padilla, and Darna! Ang Pagbabalik (1994) portrayed by Anjanette Abayari.
The Hugot Playlist has a truckload of titles starting from Nadine Lustre and James Reid films This Time (2016) and Ang Diary ng Panget (2014), ABNKKBSNPLAko?! (2014) and Lumayo Ka Nga Sa Akin (2016) which are both Bob Ong books adapted into movies.
There’s also Sana Dalawa Ang Puso Ko (1995) with Bb Gandanghari (Rustom Padilla) and Dina Bonnevie, Dito Sa Puso Ko (1999) starring Judy Ann Santos and Wowie Deguzman, and Narito Ang Puso Ko (1992) starring Lorna Tolentino, Gabby Concepcion, and Amy Austria. Whew. That’s a lot of puso.
Looking for Pinoy thrillers? How about starting with Ouija (2007) or Patient X (2009) which stars Richard Gutierrez and Christine Reyes? Admittedly, the thriller section has fewer titles than the rest but if they’re taking requests, may we ask for some Shake, Rattle, and Roll?
Oh, boy will your mother like Studio B more than you when she sees that there’s an entire section dedicated to the Sharon Cuneta and her films. Alexa, play Mr. DJ , please. Sharon and Gabby Concepcion classics Una Kang Naging Akin (1991), Tayong Dalawa (1992), and P.S. I Love You (1981). There are also her other famous movies Pasan Ko Ang Daigdig (1987), Kaputol Ng Isang Awit (1991), and more.
In the mood for some old-school comedy? There’s Bondying (1989), Ober Da Bakod The Movie (1994), and lots of other titles that defined comedy back in the old days. There are a lot of films starring Redford White, Andrew E, Leo Martinez, Janno Gibbs, Rufa Mae Quinto, and even Francis Magalona.
In this section, you’ll find a few surprising classics including Manuel Conde’s Krus na Kawayan (1956), Carlo J. Caparas’ Ang Babaeng Hinugot Sa Aking Tadyang (1981), Nagalit Ang Buwan Sa Haba Ng Gabi (1983) starring Laurice Guillien and Gloria Diaz, Paano Ba Ang Mangarap (1983) featuring Christopher De Leon and Vilma Santos, and Dyesebel (1996) featuring Charlene Gonzales. Keep digging around and you’ll find other great films.
Other than these Filipino movies section, Studio B also has other forms of entertainment up its sleeve.
Bloom is a Boysen-produced K-Drama that spans 13 episodes, less than 5 minutes each. The series follows the story of Jin-soo and Mi-na and how their love withstands the test of fate and time.
Aside from Filipino movies and a stray K-Series, Studio B also has a catalog of Boysen commercials, DIY tutorials, talk shows (The Sanity Maintainance Program with Jessica Zafra), and there’s even another section dedicated to Fernando Poe Jr. films. Go ahead and file this website under “Great Quarantine Finds”!
Which movie are you going to watch first?
Kyzia spends most of her time capturing the world around her through photos, paragraphs, and playlists. She is constantly on the hunt for the perfect chocolate chip cookie, and a great paperback thriller to pair with it.
