Even before Lovely Runner, Byeon Woo-seok has been stealing hearts left and right with his acting talent, tall physique, and dreamy smile. But after the massive success in his role as Lovely Runner’s Ryu Sun-jae, the breakout star has continuously been surprised by the level of global fame he has reached.

A day before his sold-out fan meeting in Manila, he held a media conference and even brought a lovely surprise. Instead of simply walking in to greet the audience, Byeon Woo-seok brought flowers and personally gave one to each member of the press with a cute smile. Cue our kilig! After settling down (though we’re still not over the kilig until now), the actor sat down to answer some questions, and here’s what we learned about him:

If he wasn’t an actor, he might be a coffee shop owner

When asked what he would be if he wasn’t an actor, the 32-year-old actor said he might be an entrepreneur who would start a business like a coffee shop. Though he’s not a fan of coffee, he likes to serve coffee. “Siguro magaling din ako dun,” he playfully said through an interpreter.

Media conference host Kring Kim asked the audience who would line up at 6 AM to get coffee from Byeon Woo-seok, and everyone raised their hands, cheering for him. The actor laughed, joking that everyone should get a number and line up.

He fell in love with Ryu Sunjae’s character

According to the actor, he was looking at trying a new genre other than rom-com before getting the script for Lovely Runner. But when he read the script, he fell in love with the character of Ryu Sunjae, a former swimming athlete turned idol. So for new roles, he would love to do another rom-com like Lovely Runner or another genre as long as it captures his heart like Ryu Sun-jae’s character did.

He has too many favorite scenes in Lovely Runner, but these are his top 3

“Maraming scenes that I really, really like. So there’s top three that I can share. Kasi baka hindi tayo matatapos if I tell you all my favorite scenes,” the actor said through an interpreter.

His top pick is in the second episode of “Lovely Runner”, when Sunjae first confessed to Sol that he liked her. “That’s my favorite scene,” he said.

The second is a scene where he was talking to his dad (played by Kim Won-hae) and pouring him a drink.

Finally, Byeon Woo-seok said his third favorite scene is in episode 10, when Sunjae was telling Sol that it was okay if he would die as long as they were together and he could protect her.

He’s still overwhelmed by the level of success

Despite being an actor for nearly a decade, Byeon Woo-seok is still surprised when faced with his popularity across the world. With Lovely Runner being his first lead role, he didn’t expect this level of success, even if he and his castmates were passionate about their work. But he said he is always grateful for the love and support that everyone has for him.

“Everything itself in my day-to-day [life] is actually a big surprise,” he said. “Just imagining that I’m in front of you, doing a press con, is itself also a dream come true.”

These are his 3 recommendations for his new fans

When asked which of his projects would he recommend to his new fans, Byeon Woo-seok enumerated: (1) the 2023 series Strong Girl Nam-soon, where he played the villainous CEO Ryu Shi-oh; (2) the 2022 film 20th Century Girl, where he was a high school student in 1999 South Korea; and (3) the 2021 series Moonshine, where he played a rebellious Joseon-era crown prince.

Though he mentioned these three titles, he added that it’s hard to pick, so fans should watch what they want (or maybe all *wink*).

He has a new project coming in a few months (!!!)

As he shared his final words with the press, giving thanks and saying goodbye, Byeon Woo-seok gave one last surprise, hinting that there’s a new project coming out in a few months! His announcement was met with much enthusiasm, and though we didn’t get any further details on this new project, just knowing we’ll see him back on screen again this year is a comforting thought.
