Facebook user Carlo Macuja Tandico called out Diamond Hotel Philippines for allegedly body shaming their internship applicants. Tandico shared his girlfriend’s experience after one of the hotel’s managers allegedly humiliated her at an interview. Here’s what happened.
Tandico shared that his girlfriend was looking for a 3- to 5-star hotel for an internship and tried her luck at Diamond Hotel. But when the day of the interview came, the results were disappointing.
“She then received a text message last Wednesday for an interview from Diamond Hotel. We have been delighted as finally, this will [make] her dream come true to finish her college. She went last Thursday and spoke with one of your managers and she was called as ‘Gasul’ kasi daw, ‘Maliit kana nga, mataba pa.’ Manager added ‘That’s true!, Magreduce ka!'” he wrote.
Tandico said that his girlfriend’s internship application was rejected in the end.
“We get the point, you have requirements, physically. But the way your managers act and speak? TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE and UNPROFESSIONAL!” he said.
Tandico warned other students who are planning to have their internship at the hotel to “please be aware [of] how they treat you.”
He also left a sweet and encouraging message for everyone who has been a victim of body shaming in the past: “To my girl and to all other girls out there, there’s nothing wrong with you. You are beautiful. INDEED.”
Tandico’s post currently has over 112k reactions and 45k shares on Facebook.
The issue drew the ire of Pinoys online.
“As a former employee of an international brand hotel with an upper midscale rating, this has caught my attention. It’s a shame that your business is under “hospitality,” but you allow your colleagues to work with such unprofessional behavior?! You must take this seriously, or else it might affect the expectations of your business and future guests,” commented one concerned Facebook user.
“Naku beh sa panahon ngayon ang dami ng manghuhusga akala mo napaka perfect! Di manlang matignan sarili hahays,” said another.
Many also sent Tandico messages about similar experiences they had while working for the hotel.
“Bro totoo yan. Ayaw nga minsan ipalabas yung kakilala ko sa front desk kasi chubby siya,” read one message from Tandico’s screenshots.
“Totoo yan, isa rin ako sa nakaranas ng ganyan,” read another message to Tandico. “Nag-apply ako noon sa kanila. Kaso and sabi sakin is tatawagan daw nila ako and sana daw magbawas ako ng kain kahit papano.”
The hotel was quick to leave a comment on Tandico’s post via their official Facebook page. On the same day, Diamond Hotel Philippines also released a statement on social media.
“Diamond Hotel Philippines is aware of a recent Facebook post that brought attention to an alleged incident concerning an internship applicant,” read the statement. “We want to assure everyone that the hotel does not tolerate such behavior and take these claims seriously. The hotel is currently investigating the matter to take appropriate actions.”
As of writing, the hotel has yet to give updates on its internal investigation.
