REVIEW: Enhypen’s Dark Moon Special Album ‘Memorabilia’

May 27, 2024   •   Brigitta Aquino

Even after the US leg of their “Fate Plus” tour, Enhypen is still hard at work with the release of their new special album Memorabilia. The album is a special for their webtoon Dark Moon, which has two installments and a spin-off. Here’s what we thought of the release.

Supernatural Themes

According to a Naver article, the album follows the themes of “fated love” and “existential concerns of a vampire” that are present in Enhypen and the Dark Moon lore. The five songs on the album express these themes beautifully in upbeat dance numbers as well as slow, sultry numbers like the title track.

Fatal Trouble

The haunting melody of “Fatal Trouble” beautifully expresses the strange feeling of familiarity and duty they need to protect their new classmate, Sooha. The song talks about how the boys feel like she is vaguely familiar and how they have these fading memories with her but are unsure why. They also try to protect her at all costs, which, in the webtoon, was very dangerous since it put them in fatal trouble.

Fatal Visuals

Fatal Trouble was released with a music video featuring the members’ animated Dark Moon characters and the album. The video perfectly showed the timeline of the boys’ lives while they were on a train as move on to their new lives.

One In A Billion

Next “One in A Billion,” was the first song released for the webtoon. It perfectly summarizes the original story of Dark Moon, which discusses their intertwined fate with Sooha. Enhypen has performed it many times, especially during their Manifesto tour, where they performed it with fantastic dance and incredible acting skills.

Criminal Love

The next track on the album, “Criminal Love,” was also released before the album came out. Enhypen first performed this blood-pumping song at their “Fate” Concert in Seoul, where Engenes were treated to an equally heart-thumping performance. The song was released alongside the final arc of the original Dark Moon webtoon, represented in the lyrics by the boys’ determination to look for Sooha despite their fading powers.

“Teeth” is one of the two-unit songs in this album. The song features Heeseung’s and Ni-ki’s cool vocals while balancing them with Sunoo’s and Jungwon’s sweet ones. It is an upbeat bop that can get everyone off their feet to dance and jump.

“Lucifer” is a darker, more sultry song about people falling into darkness as they do everything to be with the one they love. The second unit song on the album is by Enhypen’s 2002 liners, Jay, Jake, and Sunghoon. They bring this song to life with their smooth, sexy vocals and incredible chemistry.

The last track, “Scream,” is another fast-paced song about going through difficulties together. All the members join in this one with an encore-worthy fun bop that can get everyone on their feet during a concert or in their room when it comes on.

Memorabilia is an album that everyone will remember for a long time. Both Dark Moon fans and Engenes can enjoy this treat as they learn what the brothers were feeling about Sooha. Each track gives us a new way to enjoy Enhypen’s already stellar discography with new encore-worthy songs and unit songs that highlight new charms for the members. So what are you waiting for? Stream Enhypen’s Memorabilia for a memorable experience!
