Following the arrest of Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court after being accused of crimes against humanity, his supporters have made lots of noise to show their support. Some have even gone so far as creating fake quotes from fictional characters, and while many of these began as satire, many Filipinos seem to be falling for the disinformation. Here’s a list of some of the most viral fictional characters and their supposed quotes (read: fake) supporting former President Duterte.
What she supposedly said: She allegedly said that the ICC’s arrest of Duterte is “illegal.” The quote card is also being attributed to American news outlet NBC News.
Who she really is: Played by actress Reese Witherspoon, Elle Woods is a fictional character from the popular film series Legally Blonde, which follows Elle’s story as a college sorority girl trying to win back her ex-boyfriend by securing a degree in law school, disproving stereotypes against blondes and finding success as a lawyer in her own right. Which, again, is all fictional.
What she supposedly said: A word-by-word copy of the quote associated with the character Elle Woods. It’s also attributed to CNN and has been shared by many supporters of Duterte, including former Laguna governor ER Ejercito, whose Facebook post has since been deleted.
Who she really is: Annalise Keating, played by Viola Davis, is a fictional lawyer-teacher from the American legal drama series How to Get Away With Murder.

Who they really are: Portrayed by Bob Odenkirk and Giancarlo Esposito respectively, Saul Goodman and Gustavo Fring are both fictional characters in the American crime drama series Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul. While Saul’s character is a lawyer, Gustavo is a drug distributor hiding under a cover as an owner of the fast-food chain Los Pollos Hermanos.
What he supposedly said: This fake quote card is less about the former president and more about the allegations being directed toward his daughter Kitty.
Who he really is: Gregory House is a fictional doctor played by Hugh Laurie in the series House, M.D. and is known as an unconventional, misanthropic, cynical medical genius.
What they supposedly said: Harvey and Mike are allegedly going to serve as Duterte’s defense.
Who they really are: Played by Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams, Harvey Specter and Mike Ross are both fictional lawyers from the American series Suits. In fact, the series starts out with the two of them hiding Mike’s secret of never having attended law school. It was only later in the series that he actually became an official lawyer.
What she supposedly said: She would allegedly “grant his immediate freedom.”
Who she really is: Tomoko Akane is really the president of the ICC, but that is not her in the photo. That’s actress Michelle Yeoh, whose recent works are the uber-popular films Everything Everywhere All At Once and Crazy Rich Asians.
What he supposedly said: Peter Russo allegedly wants the ICC to release the former president “at all costs.”
Who he really is: Peter Russo is a fictional American congressman played by actor Corey Stoll in the Netflix series House of Cards.
What he supposedly said: He allegedly claimed that the ICC’s arrest of Duterte is “illegal.”
Who he really is: While not fictional, Johnny Sins is not a “world-renowned lawyer” as the fake quote card claims, but an American adult film performer, director, and YouTuber.
