Filipinos have never been shy to put their unique spin on things. Remember the time when international hits like Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and “Ni Yao De Ai” (“The Love You Want”) by Penny Tai (a.k.a the most iconic OST of hit Taiwanese drama Meteor Garden) were getting Pinoy remakes left and right? These songs eventually found their way to mass airwaves, teleseryes, and even to karaoke songbooks.
But why stop with Rihanna and Penny Tai? With the rise of AI platforms like ChatGPT, we thought it would be interesting (and hilarious) to see how it will translate into Tagalog some of the most iconic pop hits of all time. Hold on, folks, because this is going to be a wild ride!
(JFYI, these aren’t direct translations. Our prompts went a little something like, “Translate [artist’s name]’s song [song title] into Filipino. The Filipino translation shouldn’t sound awkward to sing while still maintaining the English version’s context.”)
Singing the line baraha ng mukha is enough for you to break your “Poker Face”. C’mon, it’s a pun. Get it? Bet you can’t help but sing this one.
And just like that, we got confused about what ~*position*~ the song’s talking about.
Why does it sound so dramatic, though?
Imagine singing “Masamang Nilalang” while dancing to some sick beats. It wouldn’t be as sexy as the song in English suggests.
Not gonna lie, the Tagalog lyrics to Katy Perry’s “Roar” are the words of motivation we probably want to hear on before facing another dreadful workweek.
Adele’s lyrics always know how to tug people’s heartstrings, and that seems to reflect even the Filipino remake (AI version) of “Rolling in The Deep.”
We love Taylor Swift, but the “Shake It Off” Pinoy remake sounds like another Willie Revillame hit. Taylor Swift x Willie Revillame collab soon?
All we know is the Filipino version of “As It Was” still slaps.
Which other songs would be hilarious if translated to Tagalog with the help of AI?
