Not All Local YouTubers are ‘Insensitive and Irresponsible’; Here are Some Worth Subscribing To

Apr 24, 2020   •   Kyzia Maramara

The local YouTube vlogging community has been struck, once again, with an issue that each content creator worth their salt has to obviously reflect on for some time. A Facebook post by YouTuber Seth Robles circulated a few days ago, calling out the insensitive pranks and demeaning videos he noticed was being uploaded by huge accounts recently. The post expressed concern that the majority of the subscribers of these channels are kids and teenagers who are easily influenced. We get that the ECQ might have posed a threat and a huge challenge to whatever “content creating” they had planned, but it’s always wise to take into consideration the audience they hold.

Since vloggers like these aren’t going to stop anytime soon, why not find other local YouTubers who are worth subscribing to? Here are just 8 of them:

Hannah Pangilinan

Coming across Hannah’s vlogs is like discovering gems in the form of videos you’d definitely re-watch every now and then. Her vlogs are well-thought-out, inspirational, and so artfully edited that you won’t even notice 15 minutes have already gone by.

From growing up in the Philippines to recently moving to Australia, she chronicles her life, the lessons she’s learned, living with her family, and everything in between. Teenagers could learn a thing or two from her!

Cong TV & Viy Cortez

There is no doubt that Cong Velasquez, his girlfriend Viy Cortez, and their crew Team Payaman is on top of the vlogging industry right now. Between Cong and Viy, they have close to a whopping 7M subscribers and their average video views amount to 2M each upload.

The secret to their fame is simple — they’re your average relatable Filipino couple and barkada, albeit a tad rowdy. Their videos showcase Pinoy humor, the simple Filipino lifestyle, and down-to-earth vloggers. There are prank videos of course, but none of the silly ideas that hurt people for likes and views.

Jericho Arceo

Jericho Arceo isn’t your typical vlogger who brings his camera with him to film every moment of his life. His subscribers so far have only ever had the privilege of seeing his room (or what could be seen over his shoulder), and only rarely see him going to events or having collaborations. This simply proves how people subscribe to him not because of the places he goes to or the celebrities he encounters, but because what he has to say is interesting. If there’s a huge issue out there, trust that Jericho will weigh in on it and give his viewers food for thought.

Emman Nimedez

Here’s another content creator that isn’t really the vlogging type. You might be already familiar with Emman Nimedez, the guy behind those entertaining K-Drama parodies that circulated online a few years back.

Emman makes sure his videos provide laughs and entertainment and rarely does he fall short. But what we really like about him is that he is a superb video editor and it shows even through his simple skits. He is creative through and through and if you’re ever interested in the life of a video editor/content creator, you won’t regret subscribing to this guy.

Paolo Tomenes

Ukay-ukay shoes restoration? Paolo Tomenes is your go-to channel. He explores ukay-ukay stores in Metro Manila, and is always on the hunt for rare, vintage, and cool shoes to add to his collection. Seriously, he will teach you where to get shoes for as low as Php 200. He was even dubbed as the “Ukay-ukay Boss” by sneakerhead and fellow YouTuber Carlo Ople. Paolo’s tagline is “Still learning” and it’s refreshing to find a YouTuber who is humble enough to not let fame get to his head and admit that still has room for growth.

AC Bonifacio

This 17-year-old girl is a powerhouse. Andree Camille Bonifacio, or AC as her fans call her, is a dancer, singer, actor, and content creator. She is the first grand champion of the Filipino dance competition Dance Kids and this catapulted her to greater heights. She’s performed twice on The Ellen Degeneres Show and has shared the stage with Ariana Grande at her concert.

AC posts amazing K-pop dance covers, song covers, and vlogs of her adventures in her corner of the globe. If you need sunshine in your life, you should totally hit that subscribe button.

Ranz Kyle and Niana Guerrero

Ranz Kyle might have had a totally different image a decade ago (Chicser) but now he and his sister, Niana Guerrero are two of the most subscribed Filipino YouTubers out there. Aside from their epic dance covers and videos, Ranz and Niana vlog about their daily life, sibling bond, challenges, and pranks. Their videos with their younger sister, Natalia, are too cute!

What’s endearing about Ranz Kyle’s vlogs is how he takes care of his younger sisters, encourages them to do what they love, having fun with them at the same time.

Nate Punzalan

Sometimes, your average vlogger can get quite annoying. They’re all about hopping on the latest challenge, the latest prank, one-upping each other, and just generally being loud for no reason. Sometimes it’s nice to enjoy some peace and quiet, and Nate Punzalan’s channel gives you just that.

His channel is a welcome respite to the cluttered social media world out there. Sure, he’s just making videos on his life, realizations, and inspirational thoughts but his content is always golden. Besides, if you want to know the thoughts of a man who got married early (he’s just 24, guys), go ahead and watch his videos.

Which other YouTubers would you recommend worth subscribing to?
