GCash to Charge Fee for Every BPI Cash-In; Here’s a Hack to Save on Extra Fees

ICYMI, GCash will start charging for every cash-in you do via linked BPI or Unionbank accounts. Starting October 2, 2023, you will be charged a PHP 5 convenience fee for every cash-in transaction from a linked account done on the GCash app.
But in case you’re like most of us who would rather save those extra 5 pesos every transaction, we found a way around it. You just need the BPI app and then simply follow these steps:
Make sure you’re using the new app! The old BPI Mobile app will be retired by September 30, 2023, which means you won’t be able to access your BPI accounts through that old app. So make sure you have migrated to the new one!
You’ll find it at the bottom of your screen.
It’s under the Buy Load category.
The reference number is the GCash number you’re transferring money into. Make sure you type in the right number. Double check. No, actually, triple-check!
You can only transfer at least PHP 300, and nothing less than that. Sorry, we don’t make the rules. But there is also a maximum limit, and you can adjust this in your BPI app settings.
One last chance to make sure you’re transferring to the right GCash account! Quadruple check!
And done! You’ve just cashed in to your GCash, free of charge.
This, however, seems to be only available for a limited time. According to BPI, InstaPay transfers will only be free of charge until December 31, 2023, and this BPI to GCash transfer is usually done via InstaPay.
Still, that’s a few months of savings on extra fees, right?
