Be the Ultimate Girl Boss Even on Your Period

Nov 5, 2020   •   8List Editor

Badass girl bosses are killing it all over the world. But it’s no secret that being a woman in the workplace isn’t always easy—especially during red days. You don’t have to let your red days get in the way between you and your goals. Follow these tips and you can be unstoppable.

1. Be proactive and start tracking it

Getting caught off guard by your red days can really throw you off your game. Luckily, it’s easier than ever to keep tabs on your menstrual cycle with free apps like Flo and Clue. Not only will monitoring your cycle help you stay prepared with a napkin during your period, you might also be able to better regulate your mood and take pain relievers preemptively.

2. Go easy on the food cravings

Many women experience intense period cravings when they’re PMS-ing. Some experts say that this is due to the changes in hormone levels, which trigger cravings for certain kinds of foods—usually those that are high in fat, sugar, and carbs. If this sounds like you, remember not to go overboard. While you might feel better after gorging yourself on junk food, this elevated mood usually doesn’t last, and the crash could make you feel so much worse. Reach for healthy snacks like nuts, oats, and even dark chocolate.

3. Get moving

If your period just makes you want to fold yourself into bed with a hot water bottle, we totally get it. That’s normal. But if you can, try to get a little exercise. Physical activity causes your brain to release endorphins, which work as a natural pain reliever. Going for a short run or a 15-minute circuit workout could be just what you need to feel your best.

4. Stay hydrated

Drinking more water might seem counterintuitive if you’re already feeling bloated and puffy, but staying hydrated could actually help relieve the bloating, as well as muscle pain and fatigue. Always on the go? Carry a water bottle with you so that nothing can get in the way between you and hydration.

5. Get enough sleep

Many women experience cramps, headaches, and bloating during and around their periods, which can affect sleep. And when you’re not operating on enough sleep, it’s hard to be your usual kickass self.

Maintaining a wind-down routine before your bedtime — throughout the month, not just during your red days — can help you fall asleep no matter how you’re feeling. If you’re still feeling groggy during the day, go ahead and take a power nap (but avoid taking them in the late afternoon or evening).

6. Take deep breaths

A huge part of being a badass girl boss means staying level-headed in spite of your fluctuating hormones. If you get mood swings when PMS-ing, that doesn’t mean that you have to let it wreck your day (or anyone else’s).

Whenever you feel your patience wearing thin, give yourself a break, remove yourself from the situation, and take a few deep breaths.

7. Pamper yourself

Why approach the red days with dread? Your period will come knocking for years to come, so you might as well embrace it. Put on a face mask (it’ll help with the acne, too). Treat yourself like the queen that you are. You’ve worked hard, you deserve it.

8. Stay protected

Your vagina is more vulnerable to bacteria during your period. Regular discharge mixed with blood can lead to a foul, metallic odor in the intimate area. Friction against the sanitary napkin and dried up blood can result in itchiness and discomfort. And on certain occasions, bacteria buildup during red days can lead to vaginal irritation.

This is why staying on top of feminine hygiene is crucial to your vaginal health, especially during your red days. GynePro, the Feminine Wash for Red Days, gives ultra protection against red day threats with tri-power protection against red day odor, itch, and irritation.

Made with Chlorhexidine digluconate, it’s clinically proven to be 2x better in killing bacteria vs. other feminine washes.

Don’t let periods tell you what to do. Conquer red days with GynePro and own your girl boss status!
