Hamilfans, if you want to be in the room where it happens, mark your calendars and set your alarms to buy Hamilton tickets this April. When Lin Manuel-Miranda (In the Heights) himself confirmed via GMG Productions last March 27 that his musical will be having its Asian Premiere in Manila on September 2023, Pinoy fans couldn’t contain their excitement. And if you’re part of the fandom, you better make sure you don’t throw away your shot and snag some tickets! Here’s how you can score tickets to see Hamilton in Manila.
If you haven’t already, sign up for the GMG Productions’ waitlist and get pre-sale access to tickets. The waitlist will close on April 14 at 12 NN so make sure you join ASAP!
Waitlist pre-sale will be from April 20 (Thursday) at 10 AM to April 23 (Sunday) at 11:59 PM.
Since Unionbank is the musical’s official sponsor and exclusive pre-sale partner, their customers get first dibs on Hamilton tickets. From April 17 (Monday) 10 AM to April 21 (Friday) 11:59 PM, Unionbank credit cardholders get access to an exclusive booking period. Here’s how you can apply for a Unionbank credit card.
Citi (which is now under UnionBank) will also hold an exclusive Hamilton pre-sale for their customers. From April 17 (Monday) to April 19 (Thursday), Citi credit cardholders can snag Hamilton tickets before anyone else and also enjoy an extended 2-day booking period shared with those on the waitlist. Here’s how you can apply for a Citi credit card.
If you didn’t get a chance to buy tickets during the waitlist pre-sale or you aren’t a Unionbank or Citi cardholder, don’t worry, you can set your alarms for the general public sale. Starting April 24 (Monday) at 11 AM, everyone gets the chance to purchase Hamilton tickets through Ticketworld.
While GMG Productions have shared the ticketing details, they’ve yet to release the ticket prices. Make sure to follow them on Facebook so you’ll be notified immediately of any updates.
As much as we’d love for the original Broadway cast to perform for the musical’s Asian premiere, it might not be possible. The Hamilton cast changes over time and generally includes a number of locals in the cities they tour in. In 2017, Rachelle Ann Go even got to perform as Eliza Schuyler Hamilton for the West End performances. For the Manila leg, it’s safe to say we’ll be seeing a number of Pinoy cast members, if Lin Manuel-Miranda’s teaser is anything to go by.
Hamilton in Manila performances are scheduled from September 17 to November 12, 2023 at The Theatre in Solaire. That gives Pinoy Hamilfans almost a month to bask in the genius that is Lin Manuel-Miranda’s musical! GMG Productions is also yet to publish a schedule for the performances but you can bet we’re keeping an eye out for that one.
Those who are wondering what all the hype is about, it’s not too late to join the fandom. Hamilton is a sung-and-rapped musical with a glorious blend of hip-hop, R&B, ballads, and show tunes. Lin Manuel-Miranda wrote the music and lyrics over a seven-year period and based it on the 2004 book Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow.
Since its Broadway premiere in 2015, Hamilton has earned multiple awards including a 70th Tony Awards sweep (16 nominations and 11 wins including Best Musical), a 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and a 2016 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album.
With all these accolades under its belt, it’s near impossible to get tickets for Hamilton. Not to mention they’ve mostly toured exclusively in the US and the UK. So it’s understandable how Hamilton‘s upcoming Asian premiere in Manila this September is something to look forward to.
While waiting for September, you can find the Original Broadway cast recording of Hamilton on Spotify and stream the full performance on Disney+.
