HISTORY Con 2017, Manila’s biggest entertainment convention, was held recently at the World Trade Center from August 10 to 13. Over 300 exhibitors were present to showcase their collector’s items and masterpieces from renowned artists.
The flock of celebrities didn’t disappoint! From stars of History shows to hosts of your favorite FYI inspirational shows, HISTORY Con 2017 was definitely a hit for Filipino fans! Here are some of the highlights of the four-day event.
On the first day of History Con here in Manila, it was revealed that James Reid will be the newest person to suit up for the role of Pedro Penduko, a beloved komiks created by Francisco Coching. JaDine fans were present during the event, with James sporting an injured arm.
Before the official closing of the convention, History celebrated 8 individuals who made history in their specific fields by giving them the History Maker Award. These individuals are: It girl Anne Curtis, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza, maestro Ryan Cayabyab, Olympic medalist Hidilyn Diaz, mountain climber Romi Garduce, founder of NGO Liter of Light Illac Diaz, and Filipina scientist Reinabelle Reyes. Himalayan Adventure Team Pinas was also recognized as being the first Filipino riders to get to the Earth’s highest point.
Famed duo Zack Giffin and John Weisbarth of Tiny House Nation also graced the event for the first ever FYI Home & Living Fair! A tiny house was installed at the FYI Hall which was definitely approved by the (not-so) Tiny guys!
Real life NASA astronaut Barry Wilmore graced the four-day event and gave talks about what it’s really like to go on an adventure outer space. He even participated in some of the convention’s activities such as Jordan Kilganon slam dunk exhibition and the solar lamp making at FYI Hall.
Forged in Fire winner and our very own Ryu Lim was present at the event wherein he showcased his blade demos and talked about his life here in the Philippines. He may look like your average next door neighbor, but Ryu Lim’s blacksmith skills are certainly above average and one for the books.
Correy “Big Boss” Harrison, from the popular reality show Pawn Stars, stopped by Manila, much to the delight of his Pinoy fans! Fans also lined up to meet the reality star and to listen on his talk about their family’s business.
Renowned chef and MasterChef Australia winner Adam Liaw gave Pinoys tips, tricks, and hacks to cook the perfect meal at home. Liaw also gave Pinoys a delicious treat as he cooked some of the most sumptuous and mouth-watering meals, much to the delight of the audience!
Part of this year’s event was the making and breaking world records attempted by professional competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi. Suffice to say, he didn’t disappoint! Kobayashi ate a 12” pizza and Filipino favorite sisig!
