Childhood Hollywood Crushes: Where Are They Now?

Remember the days when all you had to worry about was how to rewatch movies your childhood Hollywood crushes starred in? You probably hadn’t discovered the Internet yet, but you scoured magazines and newspapers so you could at least keep photos of these heartthrobs. But where are these stars now? Where are the handsome faces that dramatically (or not) changed your life all those years ago? Here’s what they’re up to.
As impressionable kids watching Home Alone (1990) to get in the spirit of the holiday season, a young and cute Macaulay Culkin was easy to crush on. Culkin has met a few bumps in the road growing up, including his public battle with fame and drug use. But that’s all in the past. The 43-year-old recently accepted his Walk of Fame star surrounded by friends, his partner Brenda Song, and their two kids.
Yes, we all had a big fat crush on Narnia‘s Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) and Peter Pevensie (William Moseley), but Skandar Keynes, a.k.a Edmund Pevensie, has a special place in our hearts. There’s just something about misunderstood characters played by dashing boys that catches the whole world off guard. Unfortunately, you can’t learn much about him outside his roles in Narnia because he left the entertainment industry and now works as a political adviser. He isn’t even on social media!

Whoever didn’t swoon when Casper turned into the glorious human form of a devilishly handsome 17-year-old Devon Sawa is heartless. It was a crime he only appeared in the last few minutes of the movie and an even greater crime that we had to hear him say “Can I keep you?” only for the film credits to roll after. At 45, Sawa has starred in multiple movies (Idle Hands, Final Destination) and series (Hawaii Five-O, Magnum P.I.). Sawa is currently married with two kids.
Who else is guilty of rewatching Peter Pan (2003) at least once a week because of Jeremy Sumpter? The obsession teenage girls used to have over him was intense — he had us chanting, “I do believe in fairies!” No wonder Tinkerbell was in love. Today, Sumpter, 34, is married and has a daughter. If you want to see him in a holiday romcom, you might want to get your hands on his 2022 film, Holiday Harmony.

Josh Hutcherson never truly slipped our radar, even for a moment. We went on an adventure with him in Zathura (2005), cried with him in Bridge to Terabithia (2007), went on yet another escapade with him in Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008), and cried with him again in The Hunger Games saga. This guy sure knows how to pick his roles, and we eat it up every time because who wouldn’t? He’s even made TikTok obsessed with him with that “Whistle” trend!
No list of childhood Hollywood crushes would be complete without Zac Efron, the legendary basketball captain at East High. Efron stole our hearts as Troy Bolton in The High School Musical movies, he did it repeatedly throughout the years — Hairspray (2007), 17 Again (2009), Charlie St. Cloud (2010), The Lucky One (2012), and more. When the internet shunned him last year for changes in his facial structure (they accused him of undergoing plastic surgery, but he explained it was from an injury), we stuck by him. We’ll probably continue to stick by him our whole lives. Such is the Bolton effect.
Brendan Fraser has probably had the best Hollywood comeback we’ve ever seen after being public with hardships in his career (including being sexually assaulted). He caught our eyes in George of the Jungle (1997) and stole our hearts in The Mummy trilogy (1999-2008). Early this year, he won his first Oscar for his role in The Whale and received a 6-minute standing ovation at the 79th Venice Film Festival in September. If he were Filipino, we’d tell him “Dasurv.”
