HORI7ON is the newest idol group dead set to carve a lasting legacy in the global music scene. What’s different about them? All members are Filipino! Whether you’re a devoted fan or simply curious about HORI7ON, we’ve prepared a quick and fun guide just for you!
HORI7ON is a seven-member boy band under MLD Entertainment. But you’re probably wondering, is HORI7ON a P-pop or K-pop group? The answer is they’re a little bit of both. In an interview with The Philippine Star, MLD Entertainment chief executive officer (CEO) Lee Hyoungjin explains that when it comes to music, the color changes depending on who’s singing it.
“And for HORI7ON, being a group that’s a collaboration of K-pop and P-pop, they for sure is going to have their own color. And we are going to do our best so that they can do their own music and their own colors to show to the world,” Lee said.
The K-idol system follows a culture where each member of the group has a specific position. Get to know the boys of HORI7ON below:
Dream Maker is a reality TV competition by ABS-CBN in partnership with MLD Entertainment and Kamp Korea, Inc. It’s similar to South Korea’s survival show programs like Produce 101 and Boys Planet. The show follows 62 contestants or Dream Chasers vying for a spot to be part of a global P-pop group (now known as HORI7ON) that’ll train under the K-pop system and eventually debut in South Korea.
You can’t have a global pop group without a catchy yet meaningful fandom name. HORI7ON’s dedicated supporters are called Anchors. The fanbase’s name means the fans are HORI7ON’s compass that keeps them on the course of their journey. No matter where the road takes them, HORI7ON and Anchors always have each other’s backs.
Anyone who follows the K-pop scene knows it’s a rite of passage for any South Korea-based act to perform on music programs. And HORI7ON just checked that off their list because they recently performed on not just one, but four major music shows: SBS Inkigayo, MBC Show! Music Core, KBS Music Bank, and Mnet M Countdown. Hopefully, we see the boys take home their first-ever music show trophy soon!
Aside from showcasing their singing and dancing chops on stage, HORI7ON is also giving Anchors a closer look into idol life in South Korea. The docu-series 100 Days Miracle explores the All Filipino-boy band’s growth and the preparations for their much-awaited debut. This fascinating journey brings us to our next exciting point…
Following their Dream Maker stint and countless hours of practice, HORI7ON has dropped their debut studio album, “Friend-SHIP,” led by dance-pop banger “SIX7EEN.” (You’ve got to check out the music video of “SIX7EEN,” where the boys showed their unique charms!) Their debut album has 21 tracks, including pre-debut tracks like “Dash” and “Lovey Dovey.”
Another highlight of their “Friend-SHIP” era is the collaboration between Marcus and Jeromy of HORI7ON with Lapillus’ Haeun. The talented trio worked on “How You Feel,” a feel-good song that tells the story of two people and their feelings for each other. Maybe this is a sign that more collaborations from these two groups aren’t far off the horizon (pun intended).
HORI7ON may be following the K-pop idol blueprint, but they never lost that P-pop spark. The seven-member boy band is dedicated to their craft and wants to showcase the Pinoy flair of their artistry. They also want to be involved in writing lyrics for their songs.
“We want to be artists that other artists and other people look up to, you know, to be a role model,” Vinci said in an interview with The Philippine Star.
