How to Protect Yourself from the “Freshman 15”

4. Make time for regular workouts.

Quit making excuses, and get off your lazy butt! Instead of spending hours on social media—procrastinating—go sweat it out. Set aside at least 30 minutes a day to do something active, even if it’s just taking the stairs to and from your class at the 11th floor.

3. Keep mealtimes sacred.

There will be times when you’ll feel like you can’t afford to take a break just to make the deadline. But, succumbing to that is a fast ticket to weight gain and worse—getting sick. Don’t skip meals for your body and mind’s sake! Your brain needs a breather to function better. As for your body, skipping meals will slow down your metabolism. Now who wants that?!

2. Know what you’re eating.

This is where wizards in the kitchen take the upper hand. Cooking your own food is ideal, so you can control the ingredients and preparation of everything you eat. Stay away from fast food joints, processed food, junk food and other grub with unknown beginnings.

If you don’t know how to cook, consider these diet delivery services. They make healthy-eating convenient, and they’re transparent with what goes in the menu.

1. Drink your coffee black.

Coffee will probably be your ever-dependable College companion—keeping you awake and giving you the strength to face life. Drinking a moderate amount, about two cups a day, is perfectly fine. As long as you ditch the milk and sugar!
