The Ikjun/Songhwa Moments You Can Hold Onto While Watching ‘Hospital Playlist S2’

Jun 24, 2021   •   Meryl Medel

Everyone’s favorite K-drama is finally back. After a year since its last episode aired, Hospital Playlist has come back with an all-new season. We’ve been burning with all our questions since then, but a few of them have immediately been answered by the very first episode of Season 2.

Caution: Minor spoilers ahead!

Half of the viewers were hoping that two of the 99s — Lee Ikjun and Chae Songhwa — would end up together ASAP, while the other half somehow expected that the storyline would be dragged on longer. Well, one of these is right, so let’s just comfort ourselves with these Ikjun/Songhwa moments to hold onto while we’re waiting for the rest of the episodes.

When Ikjun gave Songhwa a scrunchie

Via Netflix

The first ever interaction between Ikjun and Songhwa (that we know of, so far) is during the med school exam and interview period. Ikjun and Junwan finds themselves sitting beside a long-haired Songhwa, when they hear how the med school staff is looking for neat, professional-looking students, leading Songhwa to panic about her hair and Ikjun to give her a scrunchie.

When Ikjun’s first thought during a rainy day is to go to Songhwa

After a long surgery, Ikjun is told by the nurses to take care because it’s actually raining outside. He gets a little fond smile on his face, and viewers immediately get why in the next scene — because Songhwa loves the rain.

When Ikjun admitted that he once liked Songhwa in that drinking game

In a team dinner with the neurosurgery department, the residents pester the two professors about their med school days. While playing a game of spin the bottle, they teasingly ask Ikjun if he ever harbored feelings for Songhwa. Ikjun doesn’t say anything, but he does drink the shot, and that’s as good an answer as any. The look of surprise and wonder on Songhwa’s face!

When Ikjun went to Songhwa’s doctor’s appointment

Before she went for her doctor’s appointment, Songhwa had been adamant that none of the 99s would do anything to get her results earlier than she was supposed to. That is, until she sees Ikjun waiting for her in front of the doctor’s office after he had come straight from an overnight surgery.

When Songhwa wanted coffee and Ikjun came to the rescue

Via Netflix

She didn’t even tell anyone, much less Ikjun, that she wanted a cup of coffee. She literally just thought it, and here comes Ikjun knocking on her door, bearing a cup of coffee. They’re so in sync it’s unreal.

When Ikjun waited for Songhwa after a surgery

Via Netflix

As they were eating out on a rainy day, Songhwa receives a call from the hospital about an emergency surgery, so Ikjun drives her back. After the surgery, Songhwa is readying herself for a rainy commute home, but she is wonderfully surprised when Ikjun calls her, telling her that he has been waiting for her. Why do they already look like a couple?!

When Songhwa immediately rushed to Ikjun’s house to take care of Uju

Via tvN

His son Uju is an important part of Ikjun’s life, and when his son is sick and the hospital is calling him, his first impulse is to call Songhwa — not even Uju’s nanny (a logical choice) or any other member of the 99s (Jeongwon is so good with kids!). And here we get Songhwa rushing to get to the Ikjun’s house that he even asked her, “Did you fly here?”

Sure, she could just be a really caring friend who helps whoever calls for her, but let’s be real. We all thought at that moment that the three of them would make a cute family.

When Ikjun said it’s a treat to have a meal with Songhwa

This is one of the best moments really. We all knew that Ikjun loved spending time with his friends and especially Songhwa, but it was at this moment that we saw how he really treasured the everyday, mundane things he gets to do with her. He says getting coffee and eating a meal with Songhwa is the treat he gives himself, and our heart grows fonder while also breaking at the same time.
