8 Signs 2024 Is Going To Be A Crazy Year (From January Alone)

So after we’ve now failed to keep our New Year’s resolutions and mostly returned to the rhythm of our lives, how is this 2024 turning out, really?
Well, if you asked us, it’s turning absolutely insane, considering how jam-packed January alone has been when it comes to headlines that just demanded to grab our attention. Here are just 8 of those.
Released from prison just last December 28, Gypsy Rose Blanchard has had documentaries left and right made about her sordid tale, and we don’t have to go back there. If you know, you know. If you don’t, DON’T GOOGLE IT. She’s clearly regretted what has happened and has paid her debt to society. Or has she?
It’s pretty clear that as she tries to pick up her life once again, the people around her are still too busy bringing her back to the darkest moment of her life. She’s still being asked tasteless questions about the event, and being treated more like an oddity than a human being who’s just trying to live her life. We have no idea how that’s going to affect her in the long term, but it would be nice if people cut her a break just a bit. She’s been through enough.
How many think pieces have been written about this fiasco, covering everything from the fickleness of Pinoy Pride to the many axes people have to grind when it comes to Jo Koy and his antics both onstage and offstage?
The craziest thing about this? The ratings for this year’s Golden Globes rose by 50% from last year, so no matter the feedback, the only metric that matters says that the event, and by extension, Jo Koy’s hosting, was a success. This means it’s not going to be such a long shot to see him getting another chance at this again.
Was this the first viral post in 2024 in our neck of the woods? Arguable. That being said, it was pretty wild how little tolerance we have nowadays for humblebrags that lead to rank-and-file people just trying to live their lives and losing their jobs. While nobody ever gets canceled in real life, internet karma is more swift than ever.
Was this even a real thing or just a story translated from Reddit? Either way, the debate on how much one should spend on an engagement ring and the wild history involving the very concept of engagement rings has ended up really igniting quite a discussion. And we still don’t have a sound conclusion to it! That’s how successful a marketing campaign can be for you – despite it making all the sense in the world to ignore the price tag for an engagement ring, people still sing the prices of blood diamonds.
Yet another viral post that had to be double-checked for veracity, this is the sordid tale of a Pinoy office worker who labeled their shrimp lunch in the office pantry, only for an officemate to steal the food, then complain via HR after the fact when it turns out that the meal they stole caused a near-fatal allergic reaction. The wild story, complete with twists and turns, really captured our imagination for an entire week or so. Whether or not it’s true, you have to admit that the idea of someone stealing your food and instantly suffering karma over it is pretty delectable.
Imagine how awkward it must be to be there, only to be regaled by a song that’s actually titled “Yellow.” Moving right along…
Yes, the first-ever version of Mickey Mouse just hit the public domain. No, this doesn’t mean anyone can just create the next Disney empire. There’s a whole lengthy discussion to be had about public domain and intellectual property, and it’s always a fascinating topic, but expect some attempts at creating a new Steamboat Willie one way or another within the year. It worked for Winnie The Pooh, after all.
A censorship board in 2024 seems to be one of the things we shouldn’t have to contend with, but here we are with the MTRCB, yet again removing another program from the air over what sounds like puritanical standards. The show “Private Convos With Doc Rica” is a program that has a medical expert talking about sex in a straightforward manner.
Considering our sky-high teenage pregnancy rate, if there’s one thing this country probably needs, it’s real talk about sex and sexuality. But nooooo, can’t have that with the MTRCB around.
