The daughter of veteran actress Jean Garcia, Jennica Garcia-Uytingco is an actress and host who stepped out of the limelight to focus on her family. She married fellow actor Alwyn Uytingco in 2014, and they have two daughters, Athena and Severina.

2010 to 2014: Together then married

In a 2015 interview with The 700 Club Asia, the couple shared how they got together. Jennica admitted that she really liked Alwyn even before they met. “Bata pa lang ako, crush ko na kasi siya,” she laughed. They shared that it was even Jennica who first actively pursued Alwyn that eventually led to their relationship.

In February 2014, Jennica and Alwyn got married in a secret wedding with only family and friends. They only announced the marriage to their fans and the public nine months after.

2014 onwards: Showbiz hiatus

Since getting hitched, the couple has been lying low, taking on smaller projects like one-episode appearances or cameos. This is especially true for Jennica, who set aside the time to raise their two daughters.

2019 to 2021: Struggles and rumors

On their anniversary in 2019, Jennica shared on Instagram how she and Alwyn just had one of the “hardest” years in their marriage. “Last year was the hardest on our marriage. It was our toughest so far but our never changing God did not fail us and remained faithful,” she wrote.

During 2020, it seemed all was well with the couple. But at the start of 2021, a series of cryptic posts on Jennica’s Instagram account sparked rumors of their marriage being on the rocks. She wrote a heartfelt letter to her daughters and asked her followers if there’s another way to change her Instagram username. Jennica also praised parents for working to keep their marriages intact. But she also told those who were dumped to stop begging for their partner’s affections.

“However, if only the husband or the wife is trying to fix what is now broken and your spouse already let go of you to start a journey that is all about them (me, myself and I), a journey without your family in it … cling to God and do not beg further for your [spouse’s] affection when you already tried getting them back many times,” she added.

May 2021: Separation

In early May, Jennica shared that she and her two daughters were moving into a new place, so she was holding a sale for furniture and clothes so that she could have a “fresh start.”

Just a few weeks after her post about moving, she revealed to GMA Network that she and her husband have separated. “From a family-of-four, we are now just a family-of-three, sacrifices must really be made.” In light of the changes in her life, Jennica is also making a return to showbiz life, starting with her newest project Las Hermanas.

Netizens have a lot of speculation, but neither Jennica nor Alwyn shared why they chose to separate. Jennica also clarified that finances are not the reason why they broke up.

June 2021: Alwyn wants to get back together

Nearly a month after the confirmation of their breakup, Alwyn finally broke his silence and shared a photo of his family, captioned with a paragraph full of hope that they can get back together.

“Araw-araw, ito ang magiging dasal ko. Ito ang kakapitan ko. Ito ang papangarapin ko. Ito ang aasahan ko. Na balang araw, maging maayos na ang lahat,” he said.

June 2021: Momma Jean protects her daughter

Unfortunately, not everyone is as hopeful as Alwyn — least of all his mother-in-law, Jean Garcia. In the same post, Jean blasted her son-in-law for not answering her message and for the confusion and hurt her daughter is feeling.

“Talaga ba yan Alwyn?!!! Sana sinagot mo message ko sayo…respeto kase yon bilang magulang ni Jennica. Kausapin mo kaya ako para magkaintindahan tayo! Ok ka lang ba?!” one of her comments said.

“Wow [ngayon] naiisip mo mga anak mo? Tama naman ‘yan pero ‘yung heartaches ni Jennica sa ‘yo? Ok ba? Tanong lang Alwyn?” Jean followed up in another comment.

In her own account, Jean kept on fiercely showing support for her daughter, while also posting rather cryptic (and maybe patama) posts.

June 2021: Alwyn apologizes

Before June ended, Alwyn directly and publicly addressed Jennica to apologize for his shortcomings and declare his love for her. “Mahal kita, [Jennica]. Sorry sa lahat ng pagkukulang ko. Patawad sa lahat ng pagkakamali ko,” he wrote.

So far, neither of the former couple has spoken up, but mother Jean Garcia continues to throw support for her daughter amid these big life changes.
