It has been a week since the House of Representatives denied the renewal of ABS CBN’s franchise. And we all know that there’s so much more behind it than some so-called infractions. The decision resulted in an uproar from ordinary nobodies to prominent celebrities. One of the most outspoken so far is Jennylyn Mercado — the unexpected woke queen we didn’t know we needed.
Although she is not a talent of the Kapamilya network, GMA actress Jennylyn Mercado lashed at to people who are happy about the closure of ABS-CBN. https://t.co/HDppzHwaEn pic.twitter.com/IGPQO6PhSa

We’ve seen different Kapamilya stars share their thoughts, feelings, and frustration over the House of Representatives’ decision on ABS CBN’s renewal on social media. Some have even taken it out on the streets through protests. But Jennylyn Mercado’s voice was an unexpected one. After all, she’s from a different network, and like many celebrities, she hasn’t exactly been very vocal about her politics. So when she fired back at those who were celebrating the denial of the franchise with, “You are cruel,” we were shookt — in the best way possible.
Sharpest lines I’ve seen by an artista so far. Jennylyn Mercado gets it ✊
Nevermind the Lopezes who are filthy rich or the actors/actresses who can have their big breaks again. The true casualties are the regular and seasonal workers coming from the whole of creative industry. pic.twitter.com/bmssltFxJi

We love how she totally understands the situation — thousands of people will be affected by this decision, even if they’re not directly employed by the network. It’s truly that the workers who are the backbone of the network — the ones we don’t know about — are the ones who will be the most affected. Many of them are the breadwinners of their families. What will become of them now?
Please don’t ever describe me as meek. Thank you :) pic.twitter.com/DMAGHpiaQQ

As the famous quote by Desmond Tutu goes: “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” There’s no doubt why the actress has captured more hearts of the masses recently. It’s simply because she knows how to use her influence.
One quick reminder to the people na nagrereply ng “shhh”, “shut up” o “tumahimik ka nilang”, at “huwag ka mangelam”… ❤️
Respecting other people’s opinion is a value you seem to have forgotten… pic.twitter.com/4wDwTuwgwP

She handles her haters too well.
But I am a Filipino and that alone is enough.
To be neutral or silent in times of injustice is injustice.
If being “bashed” is a small price to pay for practicing my right to freedom of speech. Then I am fine with it. pic.twitter.com/CKeTsnUbr1— jennylyn mercado (@MercadoJen) July 13, 2020
The way she handles haters is just *10/10 chef’s kiss*. She doesn’t even mind getting bashed as long as she stays true to her views and opinions. Did she stutter? I don’t think so.
Kamusta na pala kayong lahat? ❤️

And just like many of us, she’s done with the circus show that is the government is right now. Ordinary Filipinos are suffering while those in high positions are given free passes. If you’re not upset yet, you should probably reexamine your values.
When the Philippines unemployment rate just recorded an all time high, that’s when the congress decided to terminate a renewal which will cost and additional thousands of people their jobs.
Nasan yung logic dun? pic.twitter.com/bh3wMqwd85

If you’re reading this from the comforts of your home, without hardly a care in the world, consider yourself lucky. So many Filipinos are already struggling to make ends meet, and now, thousands of ABS-CBN employees have to face the horror of losing their jobs during a pandemic. And the reason why they lost their jobs isn’t even because of the pandemic, but certain leaders’ vindictiveness.
To move on is to disregard the suffering of others… pic.twitter.com/pAOkmOBOWf

Those experiences shaped the person that I am now. https://t.co/GBDjBItEmy

Because it’s true that this an issue you simply can’t move on from. Pinoys are experts at staying silent until they’re the ones feeling the pain. Just because you’re not affected by it doesn’t mean you should stay silent. At the end of the day, thousands of families are being affected. She’s speaking from experience, and she truly feels for the employees who are struggling.

In true queen fashion, she knows what she’s doing and she knows its consequences. But it looks like she’s not bowing down anytime soon (or ever). As she said, the fight for the Filipinos continues. Jennylyn speaks for the masses, for the unheard, and this is just one of the many reasons why we should stan her.
