After a long four-year hiatus, John Lloyd Cruz is finally getting back in the biz again. Despite his occasional cameo appearances in commercial ads and smaller-than-usual projects, we’ve missed him. He was last seen as top billing in 2017’s Finally Found Someone. Now that he’s officially back, we’re absolutely stoked to see him on the big and small screens again. Here’s what we know about the John Lloyd Cruz comeback.
Fellow actress Maja Salvador has recently established her own talent management agency, Crown Artist Management, which manages her as an artist while she is at its helm as CEO. The company recently announced that JLC has signed with them and he is officially back! TYG.
Prior to his hiatus, JLC didn’t have any official social media accounts. He had his Instagram @dumpsitegallery, which is where the actor, well, dumped random photos from his everyday life. But now he has officially opened his Facebook and Instagram accounts, both under the username @johnlloydcruz83.
While he was on “indefinite leave” from the showbiz industry, JLC took time to settle personal matters and actually live his life. From 2017 to 2019, he was leading a quiet life with fellow actress Ellen Adarna, until they broke up. Since then, he has been heavily involved in raising their son Elias, despite their separation.
Despite being on hiatus, JLC did make a few appearances in some projects, albeit not at the scale we’re used to. He reunited with long-time love-team partner Bea Alonzo in a commercial ad for Lucky Me and also did a brief experimental film on Instagram Live called Love Team. He also joined Bea and Piolo Pascual briefly to endorse Turk’s. And he made a cameo appearance in the 2019 film Culion written by Ricky Lee.
Eagle-eyed fans have since been on the lookout for any other projects the actor might have. Last February 2020, he was confirmed to be starring in the film adaptation of Ricky Lee’s short story “Servando Magdamag,” directed by award-winning Lav Diaz. JLC is playing the titular character, with production beginning in December 2019 and fans eagerly waiting since.
Another film with Lav Diaz starring JLC is awaiting fans. According to the director, Historya ni Ha was shot in Palawan way back from 2017 to 2018, and he is also done editing the film. JLC is playing the titular role of Hernando “Ha” Alamada, who “fulfills the last leg of his performing tour on the Mayflower cruise ship” as “the Philippines is experiencing a bitter transition yet again.”
According to the most recent photo of the actor, JLC met with Wowowin host Willie Revillame and director Bobot Mortiz to discuss his next project, which would be on GMA. Speculations arose that it would be a comedy show with actress Andrea Torres. With these rumors, netizens can’t help but notice that Andrea is the ex of Derek Ramsay, the now-fiance of JLC’s ex Ellen Adarna.
As of writing, however, there have been no confirmed details of JLC’s next project.
One of the most favorite love teams of the Filipino audience, the comeback of the John Lloyd x Bea pairing seems so so soooooo close now that JLC’s back. Fans are excited — and for good reason. Last December 2020, ABS-CBN teased a reunion movie between JLC and Bea entitled No Goodbyes. The film is set to be released this year, but no further details have been released. Our fingers are crossed though! Soon!
