Amidst the growing profit-driven chains of homegrown and franchised Japanese joints sprouting like mushrooms in Manila, it’s really difficult to find an actual Japanese restaurant that can pass the standards of the “sushi police.” Yes, they exist. In 2011, Japan launched a campaign aimed at improving how foreign countries prepare their sushi to preserve the dignity of one of Japan’s signature dishes.
Helmed by Doc Efren “Boy” Vazquez of Café Juanita and Chef Tsutomu Yamazaki of Sugi, Haru can easily pass the highest standards of any sushi Nazi around. They offer a mix of traditional and modern Japanese dishes that are delicately prepared and cooked to perfection using fresh, high-quality ingredients—their sashimi will melt in your mouth like a marshmallow. Impeccable.

Now, a franchise recently opened in Kapitolyo with the same roster of fairly-priced savory dishes served in family size portions. A taste of Greece in Kapitolyo! God definitely exists.
