If you’re ever in Bonifacio Global City, faced with the dilemma of not knowing where to eat, the new Kiwami Japanese Food Hall is your best bet. It houses four restaurants all in one space giving you delicious, authentic katsu, yakitori, ramen, and even Hokkaido ice cream. What mouthwatering meals can you and your barkada find in this new spot?
Kiwami Japanese Food Hall opened its doors last September 23. It was a concept brought to life by The Standard Group, the same folks who brought restaurants like Yabu and Ippudo to the Philippines. Customers don’t only get to satiate their cravings, they also get to marvel at the beautiful Japanese-themed interiors. The minimalist, wood-accented food hall was designed by Tokyo-based architectural firm Studio MYU. Indoors, warm lights flood the dining area but you can also have a seat at the alfresco seating area.
The interiors are definitely ‘Grammable but how’s the food? Check out these restaurants housed in the food hall:
Yabu is everyone’s go-to joint for authentic premium katsu. The local restaurant, headed by Michelin Bib Gourmand-starred chef, Kazuya Takeda, has got the formula for the mouthwatering golden brown katsu (made from kurobuta pork a.k.a. the “wagyu” of pork) down to a science. It’s best paired with cold cabbage strips drizzled in sesame dressing, rice, a bowl of warm Miso soup, and a small plate of fresh fruit. Katsu sets you can order are Rosu (P335+) and Hire (P375+).
It’s not an authentic Japanese food hall if it doesn’t have a restaurant serving ramen. Ippudo’s delicious bowl of flavorful world-famous ramen is topped with slow-cooked melt-in-your-mouth chashu (Japanese braised pork belly). You can order a bowl of Tokusei Tantanmen (P520) made with a mix of tonkotsu and paitan broths or Shoyu Tonkotsu (P499) with Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth seasoned with shoyu dashi.
There’s a new kid on the block who will get you your yakitori fix. Hachibei brings hakata-style yakitori to our shores in partnership with internationally-renowned yakitori innovator Katsunori Yashima. Each stick is loaded with umami-packed, gently-charred, and flavorful yakitori. Try their 5 Stick Platter with Buta Bara Yakitori (grilled pork belly skewers), Tomato Bacon Roll, Tsukune (Meatball) skewer, Tebasaki (Chicken Wings), and Tori Momo Mentaiko.
Hannosuke is another new brand you can find at the new food hall. It brings Chef Kaneko Hannosuke’s original tempura recipe (originally made in the 50s) to our shores. Shinya Kaneko, Hannosuke’s grandson and Tokyo’s iconic tempura tendon chef, now heads the restaurant. On the menu is Hannosuke’s Premium Tendon Set, a combo of freshwater eel, shrimp, soft-boiled egg, vegetables served with sweet-and-salty sauce and Japanese rice. You can also try the Premium Meshi Set which gives you a plate of unagi (eel), ebi (shrimp), and squid and scallop kakiage.
Leave room for dessert! Top off your Japanese food hall experience with Kiwami’s soft-serve bar serving Hokkaido ice cream. You can get this creamy treat served in a Lengua de Gato cone made fresh daily or in a cup with Kuromitsu Boba Pearls.
You must be craving Japanese food by now! Drop by Kiwami Japanese Food Hall at Lower Ground, C3 Bonifacio High Street Central, BGC. Their doors are open from 10 am to 10 pm on weekdays, and 10 am to 11 pm on weekends.
But don’t sweat it if you can’t drop by the food hall in person. Kiwami Food Hall is available for orders on Grab Food so you can still enjoy their offers in the safety of your home. You might not get to see the warm interiors but you at least get to experience authentic Japanese meals delivered straight to your doorstep.
