After being engaged for a few months, Kris Aquino and Mel Sarmiento have called things off. The whirlwind relationship, despite being largely private, caught the eye of many netizens over the past few months. And now that the couple has broken up, netizens have even more to say.

 

Netizens speculating

The speculations began when Aquino removed all the photos featuring Sarmiento on her Instagram. Netizens were quick to notice this, and rumors spread like wildfire. Some were hoping it was just for privacy purposes, but others thought it meant a split. But Aquino didn’t wait too long for the rumors to get too big.

 

Kris’ statement

She released a statement on her Instagram page, confirming her break-up with her now ex-fiance.

Aquino also shared screenshots of Sarmiento’s last lengthy text message to her. “Given my nature who loves to go out, I accept the fact that I already have a bubble fatigue, and I will not be able to, sad to say, be able to continue living in a bubble […] I cannot in conscience be able to accept that something will happen to you brought about my going out of the bubble,” Sarmiento’s message read.

“I will always cherish in my heart the happy moments we had together. I do love you, but I guess this is goodbye for your life is of greatest importance given that you have Bimby and Josh to take care of. You will forever be in my heart,” he ended.

 

Some netizens aren’t pleased with Sarmiento

Many netizens expressed their disappointment over the reason — ‘bubble fatigue’ — of the break-up. They say that Aquino’s poor health has been common knowledge from the start, which should have prepared the couple for the life they were going to have together, especially during the pandemic.

In the same post, Aquino shared updates on her autoimmune condition and deteriorating health. She had mentioned these health problems last October when she announced her engagement to Sarmiento. Now, she said she would be traveling abroad for medical treatment. Netizens have shared their thoughts and prayers for the actress on various social media platforms.

 

Her priorities remain the same

At the end of the day, for Kris Aquino, always at the top of her list are her sons. She might’ve spent a lot of time in the limelight (by choice or not) and spent as much time searching for her own love, but one thing’s for sure about this lady is that she always put her sons first. And doing that includes taking care of herself so she can take care of them. And if that means letting go of this relationship, she was ready to do that. That makes Kris Aquino one really amazing lady and mom.


After this confirmation of the break-up, Aquino is requesting “for some respect for [her] humanity & privacy now in the coming months” while she gets into medical treatment. We’re hoping for the best for her!
