Liza Soberano has frequented the spotlight so much recently, and we love it. The actress is speaking up for what she believes in and calling for change in areas where she can see room for improvement. Check out our favorite moments where she proved she had a voice and a backbone.

On September 24, 2020, Liza formally filed a criminal case against the netizen who made a “rape joke” about her. This comes at the heels of what Liza has dubbed as the “internet fiasco,” where she initially aired her complaints about her then-internet service provider (ISP) and found herself at the receiving end of the employees’ frustrations. One employee was said to have divulged the actress’ personal information, while another made a rape remark on Facebook. The latter has since made an apology statement, but fans couldn’t help but notice that there was no apology directed to Liza.
“I was really upset, because the fact that it’s a rape joke it’s not something that should be taken lightly, and the fact that she’s a woman, I would never in a million years do a joke like that,” Liza said to reported MJ Felipe after filing the complaint. “I know that everybody is entitled to their own opinion, that is true, but at some point you have to be respectful to others online. I want people to learn that there are consequences to everything like rape jokes coz that is not a light matter.”
I could go on and on, but bottomline treat your customers fairly, no matter who they are. Cause people work hard to pay for their internet and most of our work is done online now. Okay that’s all on this internet fiasco. Bye.

The quarantine led to a surge of home internet users, which also led to slower internet connection for everyone. After Liza aired out her frustrations on Twitter, some netizens became upset that ISPs were allegedly being selective in their quick response, like in Liza’s case. The actress was quick to address the issue and call out all ISPs to “treat your customers fairly, no matter who they are.” We stan a fair queen.
led to the misunderstanding. The message I really want to point out is, I do not tolerate being bullied and hated upon just because of individual differences. Which is prevalent on stan tweet, and when it does happen I speak up about it.

In case you didn’t know, Liza is actually a big fan of a lot of K-Pop groups, such as BTS, BLACKPINK, and Red Velvet. She served as a guest in a video by BTS Unnies PH, where she talked about her experiences as ARMY or a fan of BTS, including having a stan account (a.k.a. a fan account) and occasionally getting into arguments with them. “I have fought with people on my stan account,” she said in the video.
But her statement was later taken out of context, with many claiming that she’s encouraging fighting, fan wars, and the toxicity of stan Twitter. Upon seeing how her words were being misunderstood, she took to Twitter to clarify her statement, apologizing for her misuse of words that led to the misunderstanding. “I do not in any way support fighting and the toxic side of stan tweet,” the actress tweeted. She ended with one last reminder for everyone: “Always be responsible with what you say to other people.” And we’d like to say that that’s pretty consistent with the principles she’s shown so far (see: item 1, where she filed a case against someone making a rape remark).
Big words for someone who can’t respect me and what I find interesting.

Speaking of K-Pop, Liza has always been open about her love for her idols. She listens to their music, buys albums and merchandise, and goes to concerts. And she apparently even has her own stan account. And a lot of people love her for it. But not everyone’s happy about it, like this LizQuen fan who quoted the actress’s tweet sharing BTS’ latest single “Dynamite” and asked the actress for respect for her fans who aren’t K-Pop fans.
Well, Liza won’t take that lying down. “Big words for someone who can’t respect me and what I find interesting,” the actress shot back. Why are people still shaming others for their interests? It’s 2020 — almost 2021! You do you. And if you have nothing good to say, then keep your thoughts to yourself and just don’t say anything. That’s step one in respecting other people and their interests.
Amid the pandemic and everything happening around us, each and every one of us have been facing our own struggles, especially with our mental health. Liza is no different. She shared some tips on dealing with anxiety through an interview with Philippine Star. Take your days one at a time. Speak up, but know when to back down, too. Take a break from social media and all the loud noise it brings. Help yourself first so you don’t get overwhelmed. And surround yourself with a good support system.
I am ENRAGED. I saw so many videos online that absolutely broke my heart. An innocent man got shot, a teacher went to jail, and multiple street vendors. Is anyone doing anything about this??? https://t.co/qW9knmcSIE

As the eldest of her siblings, Liza felt strongly about the online sexual exploitation against children, exclaiming that she was enraged and heartbroken by what has been happening. She joined Senator Risa Hontiveros, lawyer Rey Bicol of the International Justice Mission (IJM), and Child Rights Network’s Nitz Dalde in an online discussion to create more awareness to what was happening against children, calling the attention of the public, and consequently the authorities, through her large online platform. She even shared how she regretted not making use of her platform much earlier and how she can now help to bring light to many more injustices in these difficult times. She called out to her fellow youth, saying, “I’m hopeful the younger generation, the youth will be more aware, will be more educated on how they use social media and the internet properly.”
So a murder was just released for good conduct. Are we supposed to just forget that he killed Jennifer Laude because he’s done some good? #JusticeForJenniferLaude #TransLivesMatter

Much like she did with her advocacy against child abuse, Liza used her platform to call attention to the death of Filipina trans woman Jennifer Laude, whose murderer, a US Marine Joseph Pemberton, was recently released and deported to the US after being granted absolute pardon. Unfortunately, despite many calls for action like Liza’s, Pemberton has already been flown to the US.
How come there’s so much time being spent on bringing ABS-CBN down but little to no time figuring out ways to help our kababayans who are struggling during this pandemic, kasi naka GCQ parin tayo?????

Where should our priorities lie? — that’s basically the question Liza implores every Filipino to ask themselves in her tweets above. These tweets come at the heels of ABS-CBN’s struggle to renew their franchise and ultimately failing. Despite losing her network, Liza calls for her fellow Kapamilya to let their voices be heard so that “the people responsible for this will gain empathy and understanding.”
What our people need now is empathy not threats.
