The pandemic left no industry untouched and local businesses are among the worst hit. We have watched, heartbroken, as over the past months, many of our beloved local restaurants, pubs, and small businesses have been forced to close down. Cubao’s Today x Future, UP Diliman’s The Chocolate Kiss, and Poblacion’s NoKal are just a few additions to a list we do not want growing at all.
The desire to support the restaurant industry amidst the COVID-19 pandemic is what urged Monica and Audrey (“two girls in opposite timezones”) to create Manila Takeout. They understood that once a local restaurant is forced to close, the staff and service team are the ones directly hit, and in this recession, losing a job could be one of the scariest things that could happen. The design initiative partnered with Philippine local restaurants and Filipino artists to create limited-edition awesome shirts which give 100% of their sales to the people that made our favorite places so special.
Manila Takeout launched in early July and has since released eight shirts pairing beloved local restaurants with the unique and creative touch of artists. Check out some of their designs below:
Each shirt is sold for P800. Although these first eight designs have now been archived, Manila Takeout is gearing to release more in the weeks to come. Watch out: your favorite local restaurant might have its own shirt soon.
To place your orders, wait for the launch of a design on Instagram or on Manila Takeout’s official website. There will be a two-week pre-order period for the limited-edition designs and after a three- or four-week wait, they will be delivered straight to your doorstep. They ship locally and internationally with free shipping within Metro Manila.
Which local restaurant and Pinoy artist should they pair up next?
