Need a Solution to Too Many Meetings? Put a Price on It

Nearly everyone hates meetings. Sure, a few of them are truly necessary to keep colleagues up to date on how a project is going or how an event was received. But attending one too many can leave everyone drained and productivity lowered. Employees have long made fun of the amount of meetings that could’ve been emails instead. And even longer still have employees wish there were less meeting invites in their inbox. There have been a lot of solutions put forward, but Twitter user 0xgaut idea to cost each meeting might be the best one yet.
Twitter user 0xgaut proposal is simple. For each person invited to a meeting, the invite should also show their hourly rate. Doing so means everyone is aware of how much that meeting would cost in total and would then think twice before inviting so many people — or even setting it up. He even added a cheeky button suggesting to “Send an email instead.”

Fellow employees burdened with meetings expressed desire to make this feature a reality. His tweet has gone viral, receiving over 100,000 likes and over 10,000 retweets.
“giving 5 minutes back” becomes “giving the company $150 back”

Maybe everyone could even get notifications when a meeting goes over the initial cost.

This guy can’t help but notice the *actual* salaries of the people in this hypothetical meeting…
Amazing self-own here, you deserve to go super viral

And this guy couldn’t help but notice the OP’s own salary, which is the lowest among the attendees.
google calendar but it shows how poor you are compared to your colleagues

Meanwhile, a few others pointed out other ways they can use such a unique feature, such as seeing how well (or not) you’re doing in contrast to your co-workers.

Just straight-up checking everyone’s salaries.
CAPTION
Some people have actually done a similar idea. Both meetingcost.live and this waste meter are simple tools that calculate how much a meeting would cost. But perhaps the closest one is a Google Calendar add-on called Overbookd. It calculates how much of an employee’s time is used in meetings and how much that time costs, and this data can then be used to help the employee and the company adjust where needed.
