Hollywood’s top celebrities and A-listers wearing the most expensive designer pieces as they follow a theme? Count us in. The Met Gala is an annual event where people on the internet get to judge the best and worst of the red carpet outfits (and turn them into memes). This year’s gala was postponed, but that didn’t stop the internet from making its own.

The star-studded gala was postponed indefinitely on March 16 as concerns about COVID-19 rose. And it’s clear that the internet is missing it. Just think of the many memes we could’ve gotten from it!
To those not in the know, it’s basically the fashion industry’s equivalent of the Super Bowl. Previously called the Met Ball, the Met Gala is an annual fundraising for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York. Attendants view the gallery and fashion exhibit, an A-lister performs, then they have dinner – that’s the run-down of the event. But let’s be real, the highlight of the event is the red carpet!
It’s an invite-only event, and sources say that there’s usually a waiting list if you want to score a ticket which costs $30,000. What’s the basis for the invitation? According to The New York Times, the person’s status. That’s probably why we see A-listers on the red carpet; from directors to models and actresses.
Since the gala is postponed indefinitely, the internet “organized” its own as they looked back on the previous ones.
BREAKING: Jason Derulo will not be falling down the stairs at the Met Gala this year :( pic.twitter.com/aiTIftdFis

Fun fact: that’s actually NOT Jason Derulo pictured falling down the stairs. This didn’t even happen at the Met Gala. The photo is actually from the Cannes Festival in 2011, and we still don’t know who the actualy guy is to this day. While Jason Derulo has clarified over and over again that he’s not the guy in the photo, it still reemerges year after year.
damn this year’s met gala would’ve been really awkward pic.twitter.com/4ZAjE1sdry

Imagine going to the event thinking how thrilled everyone would be when they see your outfit – only to find out you’ve got the same one with more than two girls. And add Rihanna to the equation:

But it wouldn’t be such a bad thing if it happens in real life, right? The power that these women hold!

Aside from the iconic looks at the red carpet, one of the most sought-after sets of photos from the night is those taken in the bathroom. Obviously, attendees go there to freshen up but we all know it’s more than that. It must be like a secret hiding place at this point. And just like everyone else, people don’t miss the opportunity to take mirror selfies!

Let’s be real: Zendaya slays the gala every. year. Especially in 2018, where she dressed as Joan of Arc.
never forget that zendaya was at the ER hours before the 2017 Met Gala and then showed up like THIS and even had Rihanna in love that she posted her on her instagram. Iconic. pic.twitter.com/766lGNW9rH

Spell iconic: it’s Z-E-N-D-A-Y-A. And no one even knew she was rushed to the ER the night before! If I were here, I would’ve skipped the event. She was rushed to the ER due to an allergic reaction to an antibiotic. How did she still manage to look THAT divine?
there’s just something about the 2018 met gala pic.twitter.com/tjRa8uBDaD

TBH, it was a cultural reset. We were all left in awe with the serve that the 2018 gala was. Its theme was “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and girl, we were brought to heaven. This is arguably one of the best themes yet, where everyone’s looks were out of this world.
My take on this years Met Gala theme “About Time: Fashion and Duration” with a twist. The black “Southern Belle” gown and entire ensemble was designed and hand constructed by me pic.twitter.com/d7e2NsY389

The Met Gala may have been postponed but that doesn’t mean designers stop working. Well, this one isn’t even by a designer! Jimelle Levon is a fashion artist who interpreted this year’s theme, “About Time: Fashion and Duration” and it’s ethereal. There is a long list of things people have been during while quarantined but this one just tops off the cake. Her creation can definitely hold its own beside those created by top designers! Jimelle better be invited when the gala pushes through later this year!
