Jun 29, 2023   •   Cristina Morales

For the first time ever, Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition is now in Southeast Asia. Thanks to ATIN Global Inc. and SEE Global Entertainment Inc., Filipinos can experience this incredible exhibit from July 1 to September 30, 2023. This exhibit has traveled all around the world, from New York to Shanghai, London to Melbourne, Vienna to Los Angeles, and more. And now, Michaelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition is in Manila.

Pinoys can visit it on the second floor, North Wing of the Estancia Mall, Capitol Commons, Pasig City for an unforgettable showing. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to witness some of the art world’s finest creations in a never-before-seen perspective, up-close, and life-sized. It’s definitely an affair that will delight art aficionados, historians, students, and travel enthusiasts alike!

What to Expect at the Sistine Chapel Exhibition

Known as “Il Divino”, Renaissance artist Michelangelo’s iconic works are now on display in Manila. Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel:The Exhibition provides a cultural journey, merging the rich heritage of Italian Renaissance art with the vibrant Philippine arts scene. Whether you have already been to the Sistine Chapel or not, don’t miss the chance to enjoy this iconic artwork up close.

1. Michelangelo’s works in a never-before-seen format

The Michelangelo exhibit features 34 of his most famous frescoes, including “The Last Judgement” and “The Creation of Adam”, but in a never-before-seen format. With the help of cutting-edge technology, meticulous research, and precise reproductions, this exhibit brings Michelangelo’s work down from the Sistine Chapel’s ceilings and right to your eye level. And let us tell you, the result is simply breathtaking. You can now see every detail of the divine figures, dynamic compositions, and expressive faces with newfound clarity and appreciation. Believe us when we say that this is an experience you absolutely cannot miss!

2. In-depth knowledge of each work

Art and history buffs, rejoice! You’ll also have access to informative signage and audio guides to enhance your experience. All you need to do is download the “Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel” app and listen using your personal headphones. And before you even enter the exhibit, take a step back in time as you read the visual history of the Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo himself on the walls of the main hallway.

3. A multisensory experience

As soon as you step inside, you’ll feel like you’re actually in the hallowed halls of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City. This exhibit is truly a multi-sensory experience, starting with ambient Renaissance music curated by Manila Symphony Orchestra conductor Marlon Chan. But that’s not all – you’ll also notice the subtle scents of patchouli, sandalwood, and frankincense dispersed throughout the exhibit, adding an extra layer of immersion. So get ready to step back in time and fully immerse yourself in this incredible Renaissance experience!

 4. Yes, you can take photos

Unlike the actual Sistine Chapel, visitors to Michelangelo’s exhibition will be able to take as many photos and videos (without flash) as they want. And there’ll be plenty of selfie and Instagram-worthy opportunities inside the exhibit. For example, you’ll find a set of wall-mounted fluorescent angel wings that make for the perfect photo op. Plus, there are photo booths where you can have your pictures loaded onto your phone, emailed, or even printed for a minimal fee. So get ready to capture your memories and share them with the world!

5. Plenty of souvenirs and merch

Looking for the perfect souvenir to remember your incredible Michelangelo experience? Look no further than the Sistine Souvenir Shop, which is filled with a wide range of unique merchandise that’s sure to please any art lover. This way, you can bring a piece of this unforgettable exhibition home with you.

6. Activities for kids

Parents and kids shouldn’t miss out on the Art Room at Michelangelo’s exhibition. Designed for bonding and creativity, parents and kids can color in images here that will be displayed on the Art Wall, creating a beautiful and collaborative work of art. And if you’re feeling generous, you can make a small donation via GCash to support partner charities that benefit from this exhibit.

7. Italian food and drinks

If you need a break from exploring the exhibit, stop by at the curated Caffe Michelangelo. A unique dining experience that marries art and culinary delights, the cafe serves Italian desserts and coffees.
